GAAP question: On NYE, my client terminated their lease early with 2 years left on the lease term. For early termination they reached a settlement with the landlord for 6 months rent. It was a regular operating lease and they have not adopted 842 yet. Should this settlement be recorded to rent expense? Or is there some other special treatment like booking as a loss? Are secondments for salary partners generally a nudge out the door? My spouse is a salary partner at an AmLaw200 firm. Her PG leader offered her a secondment with real responsibility at a newly regular client with a growing book of business. In a later conversation, she told the PG leader her goal is equity (not this year but eventually). The PG leader says she is on track but also that the group has recently made new equity partners and “everything could change tomorrow.” Is she being nudged?

What do you wish you knew when you were asking for your first raise? I’m well over half a year from that conversation but it’s on my mind. Me and my partner have sold a good deal of work but is that enough? Because there are times when I know I could have given more to a project, but I choose my mental health instead. I might (MIGHT) soon be in the fortunate position of deciding between a $170k~ TC position at Adobe (Solutions Architect, a pre-sales role) and a T10-T15 MBA. Have interviewed with Haas, Ross, McCombs, Tuck, and Anderson for R2 and am also moving forward in the interview process with Abobe. Does anyone know if people are able to make the transition from an Adobe pre-sales role to Product Management? If so, I would consider skipping the MBA. Thoughts?
