Yeah, that sounds like just extremely sexist feedback! Adam Grant just published an article on this today in the Washington Post - https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.washingtonpost.com/outlook/2021/02/18/men-interrupt-women-tokyo-olympics/%3foutputType=amp

I know. It's just the first interviewer came from a very well-respected brand, and I was like - maybe I got too excited.
But then, OMG.
I haven't met a single women among interviewers.
One of interviewers asked me how to make women more confident so they apply for promotions.
When I asked about their BIPOC policies (I'm white), they switched to another topic.
When I asked their global CHRO (white man) why they didn't have more women in leadership roles, he said, “We just never thought about it, but our new CEO wants us to follow all modern trends.
It's a billion-dollar public company headquartered in Switzerland.
I gave them a hard pass in the end.
Thanks so much for sharing this! "Executive presence" can often be code for "stereotypical idea of an alpha male boss". When I talk about executive presence I often say it is about being authentic, fearless, and confident in how you show up in the moment. Authenticity comes first because it really is unique - there is no one way. I have worked with extremely chatty executives and more quiet ones who are seen to demonstrate executive presence.
One thing that helped me when I was in corporate when I got feedback like that was asking questions (with curiosity) to get away from the stereotype and towards the end goal. So something like "Oh. That's interesting. I'd love to hear more.I haven't had that feedback before and often find that my ability to communicate in a professional, yet approachable way helps me quickly build relationships shops with my executive peers. But I'm curious - what is your concern about my leadership style and in what context?" So it recognises there is an advantage, and creates a dialogue beyond just the label.
Thank you!
