A WM was just named DEI lead for our department. He keeps talking and writing messages in ways which prioritize the aggressor’s feelings, the aggressor’s safety, and “positive intent.” He also talks and writes about “How to not jump from kindergarten to college in one conversation when it involves DEI.” He never talks or writes about inclusion or making things safe for BIPOC. I just needed to type this . Thank you for reading.

Hey! Can you share where you work so I can avoid?thanks. Sorry this is happening!

Hey everyone, I am not looking for advice. Needed to get that out. Again, thanks for reading

I gave him the feedback. He replied with the same nonsense. I’m fact, the kindergarten comment was birthed as a result of the feedback.

His DEI message is about keeping aggressors safe.

Is he a delegate of your CDEIO?

Serious question – can you quit?

I too have so many questions!

Give him that feedback

The “assume positive intent” is pretty much universal in these firms, unfortunately. I disagree whole heartedly with it! Like M1 said , give them the feedback. Is the WM part of an UG (Veteran, LGBTQ+, etc.)? Asking because as you give feedback, you could bring to light certain commonalities.

How the h*ll he got that role! Is he DEI certified? He sounds like a square in a peg hole.

He is a WM. White people in the org have praised him for DEI.

He keeps DEI from harming white people.

I just saw that a bunch of white people have endorsed him for DEI on LinkedIn.

Networking question here. A retired partner at the firm I used to work out reached out to me recently about attending an afternoon during the week (b4 4/30) with one of his long time clients. The partner and I have kept in touch since I joined my new firm and I feel like his invitation is a great networking opportunity since the client (who I have worked with before) is on a number of boards. Torn as how to request off as an S3. Could materialize to nothing but could be good for reconnecting.

As a hiring manager (for interns), would you find it weird if your incoming intern asked specific questions about dress code? He just sent a bunch of info regarding the first day and I’m thinking of replying asking about if a tie is a must or not. Do you personally care how other people look like on camera? Obviously not talking big client meetings, but just day to day. I’m starting a new job soon, and thinking how much effort I should put into my face and tops lol At my current agency I got pretty comfortable with hoodies and just concealer to cover my dark circles.

How do you guys handle someone else taking credit for your work?

A colleague keeps running point on my projects and regular work. I do 80% of the work (strategy + execution). Her involvement is much smaller yet she’s established herself as the main person for this area of marketing.

I have little visibility for my hard work and it’s frustrating nobody sees my contributions as “mine”. They ask her questions she then ask me. Bc we’re remote nobody sees what’s happening and I’m demotivated.

Ladies, I need work/fashion tips. I work in center city Philadelphia. Our dress code is “business casual.” I want to implement more outfits with sneakers. I struggle with what hem length and pant style (tapered, flare, etc.) work best.
When I look on Pinterest, most of the results show very casual work outfits w/ sneaks & while I think dark wash jeans, blouse and blazers can look cute/presentable, it’s not appropriate for my office (I’m in healthcare).

Why are town Hall meetings so impersonal? They are all about awards / the number of people hired. I know FCB health is large, but we never hear from people who aren’t Executives. Last town hall, when discussing inclusion efforts, there were no people of color represented and one of the 4 pillars of diversity was centered around our “reputation as an organization” (that really rubbed me the wrong way). At my last agency those conversations were always led by people of color from every level.
