A word to recruiters out there:

I got an email today letting me know a company passed on me, and even though it was clearly an automated email, the gratitude I felt for that simple act of decency overwhelmed me.

That's how far your profession has sunk.

Every candidate you ghost, especially after talking to them excitedly about a position, is a candidate who walks away from the experience thinking you and the company you represent are absolute trash.

Please do better.

The only time I went through a recruiter was my first job as creative group assistant. Since then, I’ve only got jobs through word of mouth. Build your network, help other people get a leg up and it will pay off.

It's not just recruiters. I went through a second round of interviews with VPs and SVPs for a large, global agency in one of the big holding company's network. Two HR contacts completely ghosted me after that. And because this industry is small, I ended up finding out exactly who they hired. It was far and away one of the most unprofessional experiences of my life.

Amen. I was once flown down to an agency in Durham, NC for a day’s worth of interviews in which everyone quoted the agency’s “no asshole” policy. After writing thank you notes to everyone I spoke with, I didn’t receive a word from anyone. Now either I was a really big asshole that day, or the agency doth protest too much.

Not really. Every time I bid a project ( specially with photographers or illustrators) I would take the time to connect with whoever didn’t win the assignment to inform them. I treat other people the same way I like to be treated. It’s basic human decency.

The other thing I find ironic is recruiters don’t even know when they have a good thing. On the rare chance they find an ECD or senior level person looking for a recruiter they STILL treat them like shit. No sense of urgency or personal attention for someone that could net them a big commission. That’s just bad business. Imagine being a recruiter and ghosting an ECD looking for a job who might someday commission a talent agency for open positions they’re looking to fill in their department. Talk about shooting yourself in the foot!

I’m convinced that overall recruiting agencies are a SHAM. Over the course of my career I’ve spoken to many “top recruiters” and have gotten very few job interviews through them. Very few of them resulted in an actual job (maybe 2-3). All the jobs I’ve gotten were through contacting people directly through LinkedIn asking about a job that was posted or was referred to by someone else.

The last recruiter I talked to would call unannounced multiple times a day, then follow up with text and email until I'd respond. Almost never had a legitimate reason to call me. Lasted until I got the job offer, three weeks later. Was partially why I turned it down.

I interviewed with a company last week and the interviewer said he would submit my notes to the hiring manager and I would hear back this Monday from HR on next steps/if they want to move forward. I didn’t hear back yesterday so I emailed HR and she said she wasn’t part of the hiring decision so would reach out to the initial interviewer for his feedback. Has anyone found success with products to help with eyelid elasticity? 28F and experiencing a lot of wrinkling/ skin sagging on top eyelids. It may be genetics but I admit that I have not been especially kind to them over the years in the way that I apply/ remove makeup (trying to be more gentle now). Have tried retinoids product that are specific to eyelids but that doesn’t seem to help/ just dries them out

Anyone else super unimpressed with administrative support with a new firm after lateraling? I told a partner I’d just take care of a routine task myself. He told me my rate is too high and to use a “project manager” (basically an intern they can pay less than a paralegal). We have a 40 person group and 3 project managers making starvation wages. Big firm. You’d know the name.
