See the 50 other recent posts on this topic. Refunds are entirely based on your selections on W4, your deductions and other personal factors. There is no correlation between high refund and anything about your job, your level, etc.
If you play the cards right, you should get a small return. The idea is you get the minimal amount possible withheld throughout the year as money right now is worth more than money a year from now (during tax return). The amount you get from your tax return should be from exemptions, tax credits and other minor things.
If you’re getting a huge return, you’re not playing the game right or you’re falsifying numbers and stealing from the government.
tax returns just get more confusing with consulting since they generally involve filing multi state
