Here are your steps: (1) Give two weeks of notice, (2) tell them you have to be on a family vacation that’s been scheduled for months. (3) Let them figure it out. (4) Stop caring about things that don’t matter
If you’re critical they won’t ask you to leave immediately... I got asked to make it a 3 week notice instead of 2 and it was the middle of the summer... and had 0 critical items due for well over a month... went from PwC to EY in tax
I had the same issue but they were fine with it. Talk to your direct Manager/Partner - call them up and explain to them with sincerity and they likely will be fine with it. I talked to my partner exactly 2 weeks of my last day (not on a Friday) but said that I have a scheduled vacation the week after that can’t be moved, and then my last day was on the following week.
Why can’t you just put in your two weeks and still take your vacay as normal? I wouldn’t adjust anything. EY will figure it out
Exactly, if they where to lay you off they wouldn’t give you the same amount of thought.
Tell EY you're going to PwC, they will let you go immediately and pay out the 2 weeks.
They kick people out immediately if you are going to a competitor. They would do this for all the big 4 firms, maybe even midsize.
You realize if you haven’t used any vacation for the year you are entitled to it as a benefit of your employment. This is the case even if you have given your two weeks notice. Honestly if they aren’t paying you out, there choice to move to unlimited PTO then you owe EY nothing more. If they have an issue book it as sick time
“sick of there shit” time
Chief
Just give one week notice and enjoy vacation. There is no specific guidance that says you need to give two weeks notice
Yeah I asked and they told me a month for a SM. I’m in the midst of that right now
How would you want to be treated, how do you want to be remembered, and who are you?
You can negotiate any start date, AND do a great transition AND meet your family obligations.
You would not give your family 2 weeks notice, you could cancel your vacation.
Do the right thing, someday your reputation may actually matter.
Make it right for all sides, it is more than possible.
The bad news here is that the poster will not get that vacation payout because it wasn't accrued. Screw EY. Give two weeks notice but note that you will be gone for one of the weeks due to a family vacation. Tell them you really appreciate them understanding that you will still be using your "unlimited' PTO
Rising Star
Ehh I believe it's against EY policy to take PTO after you give notice. Your best bet is to either give the two weeks prior to your vacation or after.
So are we saying if I haven’t taken any vacation from Jan through May because of busy season and I’ve put in my notice I’m not entitled to any vacation for working my ass off? That seems like some next level BS. I’m taking vacation and letting them call me out on it. It was scheduled well in advance of notice
If your going to a competitor it’s highly unlikely they make you wait 2 weeks
Just push your new start date back and put in your notice after your vacation, right?
I had the same issue, and Crowe went to unlimited PTO. I negotiated a start date for four weeks after because of the planned PTO.
Well, the recruiter negotiated it on my behalf and I explained my concerns (about potentially losing the paid time off).
I’m sure you can negotiate the start date that’s more favorable.
And now you don't have to worried about accrued vacation the next time you switch jobs because you won't have any!
So glad they have they great policy of "unlimited" PTO
I think if you are in a senior leadership position at EY and where you are going, then this should be an easy discussion. You have a lot to bring to the table and I do not think wherever you are going would feel differently based on a start date that varies by a few weeks.
Senior accountant not senior executive. I'm not worth anything to the higher ups, though my teams will not be happy. We're already short handed.
Now is a pretty good time to leave. Are you in the middle of a Q or something?
