I leave blank - always. If it’s required, I put DOE - depends on engagement😉. But I make sure this is discussed early with recruiter before talking to hiring manager.
It’s always a gamble. I’ve had places just send a rejection email saying, “You’re too high,” without letting me know what their budget actually is. It’s very possible it was within my range, but we’ll never know.
Even more annoying is sometimes their forms don’t allow anything but a single number. No entering a range, no adding “negotiable” to the end, no “DOE.” I finally started putting 0 too, just because at least that leaves it up to them to actually discuss it.
^ same. The one time I had to enter a number I just put 0. No one commented on this and it didn’t affect my getting the position
I filled in what I wanted, got a call and did interviews...even though it was $30K over what they intended to offer. So, I say go for it. My highball did not deter their lowball.
Wow @accenture1 - nice move. Wish I’d been that smart last night when I had filled out a desired salary that was mandatory lol
I put 0
Always put the highest number you can say out loud without laughing. Don’t lowball yourself before your first interview.
I put 0 if field mandates a number or TBD if it accepts text or sometimes I write "Negotiable". Never had problems
This is really helpful. I assumed the application wouldn’t go through w/o a number. Thanks for the tips
