How easy is it to switch offices in Bain?
A BCG recruiter ghosted me after she reached out to schedule an interview. How long should I wait before following up? What is the common courtesy to give to ppl at BCG. I don’t wanna come off as too aggressive but I really need to get this interview set as there are other pending confirmations Boston Consulting Group

I’d go based on the Principle’s recommendation tbh
Granted, I spoke to him quite a while back (10 months ago) and have had strong project and leadership experience since then. Hence wondering if I should aim a level up.

Anecdotally, I had a friend jump to BCG after 3 years of experience at a boutique as an SA and he regretted it as the timeline to get promoted is so much shorter, heading his advice I came over as an A after 2 YOE and have been really happy with the decision
If you have 3 YOE in Consulting I would slot you in as an SA (assuming you’re in North America).
Source: I do experienced hire recruiting at BCG
Low ball is the wrong way to look but rather will slot you in where they think you’ll succeed. It behooves them to keep you engaged in the role and set you up for success. There’s a lot of money that goes into BCG training that is gone if you are transitioned out or leave voluntarily.
And yes I used the word behooves.
Apply for Associate. The bar is also higher for evals after you join the firm. My friend who joined with me was transitioned out not because he was worse than I was but because he had more to prove as an SA
Unless you are a rockstar of BCG caliber already, I’d go with associate and give yourself the runway. At BCG the later promo’s have shorter timelines, so you’ll still outpace your Accenture progression ...
Op the question you should ask yourself is: is it more important to land the job, or would you rather set the bar higher with increased chance of rejection and higher pay?
Yes this is the key question. If they deem me unsuitable for the SA level, would they consider me as A instead - or just reject me on the basis of SA only?
Had a friend who applied to Bain and it was the former case for her (offered to interview for a role a step down what she applied for, rather than being rejected outright). Wondering if it’s the same for BCG.
Apply for Associate, both because that’s what the Principal recommended and because landing the Associate role will help you succeed at BCG when you get there (otherwise your likelihood of crashing and burning because you lack an internal network is higher). You’ll catch up quickly on the salary anyway

What is BA? Is that a non-NAMR position? I can speak for non-NAMR practices. In the US, the recruiters will figure out the right level for you during the screening process. Take the direction from your referrer.
Actually in NAMR referrers don’t actually have a say in positioning. And candidates don’t actually apply specifically for Associate vs SA vs Consultant. The recruiting directors assess the profile and make the call.
