So GT is known for its FTO (flex time off) policy. When I was with the Firm, I enjoyed the policy, but some people have mixed feelings. My office stopped doing cell reimbursement for below Manager, although I’m not sure if that’s firm-wise. Can’t speak to the health plans as I had the ability to stay on my parents’ plan (the ability to stay on parents plan until 26 is kinda stupid policy imo. I could have easily afforded to pay for it myself, but may as well take advantage of dumb rules to fullest extent possible). I’m a guy and not married, but iirc maternity/paternity leave is 6 months. 401k is 1.5% match and the fund options aren’t bad. They also match 4% base comp into a pension, but the interest credit is abysmal (think t-bill rates). Trying to think of any other benefits of note, but most of it is pretty standard stuff.

West coast.

4% pension kicks in after a 3 year vest. Firm doesn’t reimburse for cell phones below manager (at least in DC office). FTO is a double edged sword - you’re evaluated based on your utilization (more so than anything else). The more time you take off, the worse your utilization. You won’t accrue days off like you would elsewhere, meaning if you take less time off, you won’t be able to cash out if you leave. It really only works out for the people that are super utilized, yet still have periods where they can take off for weeks at a time. Very difficult balance.

We have fto but seems only senior and below really benefit. It’s harder as you move up to get days off. Benefits are good to be honest. Flexibility exist as you move up chain

I’m looking for assistance on building your own portfolio in my traditional 401K. I’ve been reading that it’s important to choose funds with low expense ratios. Also, that it is recommended to have at least one US stock, international stock , and bond. I am 24yo so ideally, I’d want to allocate 90%-100% to stocks and 0%-10% to the bond. Any other things I should be looking at?

Does anyone else find it difficult to ask for time off? I haven’t taken a “vacation day” since February, billed 185+ hour months consistently through the pandemic (exceeded hours for 2020 bonus eligibility), and am feeling pretty burnt out. It’s hard because other associates in my department haven’t really taken any time off either (or it has been a day or two sporadically). Would really love to take some days over Christmas to recharge but I’m nervous about perception.

22, healthy, single, M. Should I really max my HSA? I completely understand the triple tax savings but my thought process is I don’t think I’ll have a large med expense for a while. I know, I know, I know anything could happen but the likelihood is pretty low rn and I don’t want to lock this money up for solely health costs when I rather be saving for a house down payment or continued education. I still plan to contribute to it, but should I really max it out at my age??
