About to hit 1 YOE in my first job post grad and have a feeling raises/market adjustments won’t be sufficient due to Covid even though the firm seems to be meeting expectations in terms of the feedback we’ve received from management. I’m at a year of experience and have been trying to leave as well. Pretty much no luck for the past 3 months but recently got an interview with a startup I want to work at so hopefully that works out!

Good luck! What kind of role at this startup are you looking at and what role are you currently in at PwC?

In today's climate be thankful. Wait till the world stabilizes before hopping to limit downside risk. In general I advise you to take a thankful posture to income. Striving for more in consulting is the hamster wheel many never get off of. Get off before you're hooked into the bad behavior.

Definitely thankful to have a job right now, my main concern (besides fear of falling behind in pay structure due to delays in raises/adjustments) is getting stuck doing the work I’m doing (IT Audit) and won’t have the skills to switch fields if I do this for 2 years.

Job search at the beginning of covid took about a month. I am also an early in career consultant who left (before 2 years). As long as you do your due diligence on the company you’re jumping to, you will be fine. Don’t limit your potential from risk aversion

Op there is a balance. If you are at a Big4, Accenture or MBB, stay for at least two years. For entry level, you need to jump for a significant raise. Job hopping is important for raises for early career folks. I would not jump during covid, but no harm in polishing up the CV. Think more about your area of focus, and what you want out of your next role.

C3, I am looking into polishing my SQL skills as well as looking into learning Python. I think a general part of my question is when should I start looking at/applying to other roles, considering the process could take a few months.

I wouldn’t jump with the state of the market right now and you’ve only been there a year.

Move in with ur parents and look at the rent savings as your pay bump.. life is about seeing things in positive light.

Current M&A tax associate, just got off the phone with a recruiter for a senior M&A position at a private company. Involves a massive raise but with the caveat I won’t be under a CPA to get the experience to be licensed. Should this be a deal breaker? I don’t think I want to stay in accounting/tax long term but it feels somewhat wrong to have spent all that time on the exams just to not get licensed. Thoughts?

14 months into my first agency job and I’ve been told from my CDs that I’ve been recommended for a raise. What should I ask for? I’m making 58k now and have had a bunch of work produced.

I have minor generalized anxiety. Lately, I’ve had worse anxiety than normal, and as a result, I’m taking my second mental health day in a row. I didn’t tell my firm that it was a mental health day, I just told them I was sick with non-COVID symptoms. None of the partners I work for objected or said anything negative, but I’m now getting worried that they’re somehow going to find out it was just a mental health day instead of physical illness, and that it will somehow bite me in the ass . . .
