But how’s PE that different from banking? Same deals just on the other side of the transactions, except no job security because you are dependent on fund’s performance. To me, it sounds like you are missing a purpose. A job, especially one in finance, cannot give your life meaning - please don’t fall for the trap that success and money would provide that. The question you are asking is more spiritual in nature, not materialistic (note, spiritual doesn’t necessarily mean religious). So, what it is that deep desire you have been saying not to all of this time? I suspect you already know the answer, but prefer to bury it under 80 hrs of work and sleep deprivation because that’s somehow easier than pursuing it. That’s a recipe for waking up at 40 and having “nothing”, no matter how much money you have saved up in the bank.

People in this industry are terrible, take it from a lot of us who have been treated very poorly, the only reaction a majority of them will have when you quit is “damn, how is this going to affect me, must tell staffer to add new analyst onto my deals”
