About to move from TX to NYC next week. What’s the COVID situation like? Masks/distancing/food shopping/public transportation etc.? Is there anything special I need to do? Have been vaccinated months ago.

A lot places are mask free now if you’re vaccinated (nobody is going to ask though) - all the grocery stores I go to have signs saying masks aren’t required. I went clothes shopping last weekend and it really depended on the store, JCrew let me be mask free, Banana made me wear a mask. Public transport (subway and busses) still requires masks - some cab/Lyft drivers ask you to wear a mask and some don’t. I’m in Manhattan, not sure if it’s any different elsewhere.

Yep. No masks outside or in restaurants/bars (because what’s the point if you are eating and drinking), but most still wear them in the grocery store and other shops as the owners generally request it (not mandated by the state/city though.) And everyone wears them on mass transit pretty much. So - advice is to carry a mask with you when going to a shop or subway, but no need if just outside or going out to eat. Sometimes shops have a sign saying you don’t need to mask up if you are vaccinated, in which case I don’t put mine on since I’m vaxxed.

TBH masking on the subway should stay forever, COVID or not. Because the subway be gross.

I stopped wearing a mask a month ago. I only wear it in stores and on the subway. Because it’s mandated. I’d do away with it completely if I were king for a day!

You gonna spit and sit and see where you land. I didn’t know Aaron Burr was an Associate Consultant. You’d be surprised how many MDs and Partners are Republicans. OP - be true to yourself R or D and be kind to people. That’s it.

Negative - people are still wearing masks in grocery stores / public transport but that’s about it as far as I’ve seen. Moved first weekend of June and things have already become less stringent.

Masks are still required on public transportation and in grocery stores. Otherwise, I’ve mostly seen them encouraged, but not required, though at least 75% of people seem to still wear them in stores. I’ve been surprised by how many people are wearing masks outside, as well.

like

OP why you acted so surprised that people are still wearing masks. Have you watched tv or news?!?!?!?!

Masks required indoors but pretty much back to normal outdoors

I think this is quite varied across the city. My neighborhood of Brooklyn about half still required in local shops. Went into the city the last few weekends and seemed like it was required less. But really doesn’t bother me either way.

Thanks for all this. I’m a little surprised that some of the mask guidance is still in place (I thought the CDC/NY governor/mayor fully opened the city and removed restrictions. This is very helpful, guess I need to stock up on some masks unfortunately.

Masks are still common however, as of 2 weeks ago, the mask mandate was dropped. Capacity is now at 100%, no masks required in public (indoor or outdoor)- we even had fireworks to mark the occasion! 😂
