No. It’s none of their business. You’re not obligated to share where you’re going / what you’re doing.
There is literally nothing to gain
Heading to a competitor or client? If Client, tell them. You’ll get the red carpet good bye.
Reason I ask is because there are many posts on here who say “don’t tell”, but I never knew why (1st consulting job). Is there a chance current firm will get rid of your that same day? Which I am kind of hoping for so I get a break hahaha
If it's a competing firm, there is a really good chance they will let you go if you tell them.
If that's what you want, then try it.
So, why is it common practice in consulting to be let go immediately if you tell your current firm you’re going to a competitor?

Because they really be acting like ppl are stealing “proprietary “ info to take to their new firm. Like if thats my plan its done long before Im letting you know Im resigning. You also have disgruntled employees who will cause havoc if left with access.
I think it depends if you’re negotiating. I did when I was leaving cause I had to provide the offer, if you’re not then I would just let them find out via LinkedIn
Depends how your connection with current firm if you think it may impact then just say still deciding among 2-3 offers, otherwise tell them wherever going. I told clearly and didn't see any issue.

Nope. I didnt. Depending on where youre going can get you walked out immediately. If youre coming from a situation like I was in at GH i was so paranoid theyd sabotage my new gig.
