Accenture Digital vs Deloitte which company is better for Data Science or Machine Learning roles?

works at

I joined D last yr after getting recruited by nearly all the firms. I picked D because I was most impressed with the work theyre winning but also because clients perceive D's Analytics and Cognitive group as best all around ability to execute on serious data science work. Here is what I have heard from my clients: they like Acn but they are perceived as style over substance. Gamma perceived as "they're trying" as they push the brand hard but are weighed down by six sigma dinosaurs in leadership - eg they complain gamma senior people are brought in as ML experts but never heard of basic concepts like regularization or hyperparameters. Booz is known for trying to retrain people via bootcamps and it's just not enough to pick up real world skill. Lighthouse: decent knowledge, low ability to execute with confidence. Bottom line among industry savvy data scientists I know, they want to be at D to learn and implement real world solutions. That's how you become a 400k/yr data scientist.

What courses did you do? Qualifications etc?

If you’re considering joining either, I’d focus on who you’ll be reporting to. I found my experience working under Ph.Ds with a lot of practical experience to be very rewarding. Focus on the people, not the sales pitch.

Im in Analytics & Cognitive. I was hired for data viz (really bizz intelligence) but got grilled on my knowledge of R due to it being on my resume. Was asked to write R code on paper and random questions covering everything from nosql architecture to viz theory to lasso regressions. About to take over an R machine learning workflow written by my FAANG client’s data science team. Came from kpmg (non-light house) and so far loving D.

Accurate - there's a reason these firms come to D to make their stuff actually work. Surprising but 100% true.

Neither. I left deloitte earlier this year because their DS is all fluff. Currently working under PhDs in ComSci and stats and learned more in 4 months than 3 years at D. If you want do real work, you need to be in tech, not in consulting

D1. Fair point, but let’s be real, all the cutting edge stuff never comes from consulting firms.

Not familiar with Deloitte but our Applied Intelligence practice is pretty decent. Have you not connected with any of the senior leaderships in the practice yet?
