I don't understand the Deloitte cell phone expense policy. $200 for equipment? Doesn't Deloitte pay for our work phones anyway without having to expense? I remember just being given one when joining
Hey Uncle D, I have to admit something. When I file "snack" in my expense report, I actually meant to file "alcohol". My bad. No harm, no foul, correct?
Does your firm reimburse mileage related to driving into the office to work overtime on a weekend? EY does, how about the other firms?
We’re finally going engagement ring shopping tomorrow!! I love the look of diamonds but I just can’t justify the expense at this point in our lives. Any suggestions on alternative stones?
At a former company, they let you expense $20 for working 10+ hours in a day, but you could never use it because it would always be rejected. Recently started at a new firm, and I had a rough week last week (two 14+ hour days). New firm has a similar policy, so I asked. Was told not to submit the $20 reimbursements. Just as I was about to get frustrated, he told me I should get dinner for my wife and me. Only rule was to keep it under $100. Don't like working 14 hour days, but this was nice.
If I reimburse $X and the company adds $X to my paycheck I’m losing money right? Since I get taxed on the $X in the paycheck and end up with less then I spent
How are others handling moving office home when you are in your late 60s? I am re-Vising my practice from trial practice to probate and estate planning with some PI. No one wants to buy any of the textbooks or other trial books or medical books I have. For those of you who also are changing their practice, how dealing with the expense of practice stuff you bought but no one wants anymore? How far is far enough to try and negotiate relocation costs? I live in Oakland but got an offer in San Jose - around 90 min commute. Just bought a house here though and would want to move closer. Would I get laughed out of the room to try and negotiate relocation?
Are most MBB partners pompous and full of it? Every partner I’ve worked with is obsessed with “second order insights” and “complex problem solving”, but we’re literally just crunching excel data to tell the clients what they already know...
I am leaving my firm and my pay structure has been that I get paid a percentage of what I bill and I only get paid when the client pays. My firm isn’t great about collecting from clients so I have a pretty high outstanding balance. In my notice, I asked that the balance be paid by last day. Today, I learned that they won’t be doing that will continue paying me as the clients pay their bills. Do I have any options or do I just have to wait?
Consultant with loads of points, any suggestions for honeymoon spots in winter? Outside USA.
need advice. I have been working in an interim role as a portfolio manager. I was promised that the role would be mine. However, after doing the job for 2 months, I have been advised that we might not get the funding for the role and I might not get the raise and the title but my responsibilities will be the same. Its a political minefield. How should I back out elegantly that I need to be compensated fairly and competitively from this mess without burning any bridges

Just received an offer for 95k base as a staff analyst at EY. Currently in industry (finance) my TC last year was just under 100k. Not thrilled as EY’s benefits are worse than my current firm and TC is likely to be the same. I’m not happy at my current firm and I know this isn’t the norm but EY seems to have a better WLB. What do people think about the offer? EY rep seems to think there is not a lot of flexibility to negotiate, this seems to be near the top. Should I ask for a signing bonus?
Sick of biglaw but I want to stay one more annual bonus season. I’m seriously burned out and would like to shift gears but I’d like to leave after ending my 5th year. I am potentially looking to just try and hide/keep my head low to avoid work as much as possible/“slack off” and wonder how possible is to do that for a year without getting fired? I aim to maximize vacay time, and just in general try to avoid any work I don’t absolutely have to do.
