I was laid off during Deloitte‘s mass layoff in July of last year. I have worked as an independent contractor since and projects haven’t been consistent at the client I’m working for. I’m looking to get back into a big firm and was seeing if anyone would be able to refer me or help get my foot in the door. I was a business analyst for 1.5 years at Deloitte and have several years of additional experience which I’d be more than happy to share.

Is this a question? Yes
Absolutely. Leave it to a Deloiter to not want to build a long term relationship with a client. In 5-10 years you will be relying on a sale to that person for a promotion.
I wait until project is over.
Yes- it's a good gut check to see if you're overstating your project role
Simple LinkedIn rule: ALWAYS accept client request to connect while you are still billing them, but don't send any requests to connect with clients until the week you are rolling off ... You can always purge the contacts when you leave. No reason to jeopardize the relationship over it.
You're over thinking this. Accept and send freely. It's not Instagram. LinkedIn is literally for bizzzzzness.

I don't think we're overthinking this. Either way, it is difficult to verify whether you worked with that client before the request or at the same time as the request. But if you accept during and someone guesses you are working at that client at the same time, they'd be correct. If you accept after, they would never be correct. Good to think these things through.
After the project.
Wow both BCG guys say after - care to explain your reasoning?

What about Facebook requests?
Facebook is tricky. As a general rule, if I get a Facebook request, I look for them on LinkedIn and send a required if found. LinkedIn emphasizes that you want to keep it professional, but are open to connect... Not a perfect solution, but the best option I found. Had this work successfully a couple of times, but eventually I just became undiscoverable on my Facebook account.
