Accepted a post-grad job with the firm I summered at. Really like working for my boss but not in love with the content. Recommendations as to how to approach getting experience with other groups? It is a full-service law firm. Thanks!

Chat with other partners and say your open to working if they ever need help. If you come in under a particulate partner, and s/he asks you about it, you can say that you’re just making sure you’re helpful while learning as much as possible. Never know where the need will be.

I currently have a Master of Arts in Public Administration and am trying to break out of the realm of government and law enforcement.. that being said, I have been pondering the idea of getting certified in Environmental Social Governance (ESG) and sustainable business. I have been a software developer (professionally) for about 7 years now, but I’ve decided to move out from that job and do something else (still in tech).
I don’t know yet what to do exactly, but I know I just don’t want to be only writing code every day.
Tbh, I am scared. But I have set myself one year to learn something new.
I also want to go for a job that pays more (55k€ currently). I live in Paris, France, and software developers are not well paid.
Any suggestion for a career transition?

I’m a current biglaw associate thinking of lateraling to Quinn Emanuel. Looking for a more dynamic and trial-focused litigation practice, but I’m a little put off by how poorly Quinn seems to invest in support (tech, paralegals, etc) and generally seems to nickel and dime its associates. Curious how these issues feel for Quinn associates on a day to day basis.

How do you get out of a funk? For the last couple of weeks I’ve not really cared about work. I’m a 2nd year doing insurance defense, mostly PI. My hours are low and I don’t care. I couldn’t care less about doing more doc review. My current cases and clients seriously suck (clients don’t care why should I). I swear I get the worst assignments. All that and more, but I know I need to get over myself and get into a new rhythm/routine. Is this regular and what do you do to get out of it?

What is a reasonable amount to accept to settle a case with undisputed liability? Let’s say for example potential damages are realistically $100k-1M. Let’s say cost of defense is $200k. No chance of them getting out on SJ or a MTD. Is cost of defense a reasonable starting point? It seems like an offer below that would not be serious.
