Go to the one that you know will make you happiest. Chasing money will never make you happy if the job isn’t right. Good luck!

You’re an AAE. You’re not looking for a career destination, right? I’d chase the “significantly better offer at a bigger shop”. Grind through it if it’s not perfect. These high profile things are significant early on. IMHO. It served me well.

It's not the end of the world to go back on your word and take a different job. It will burn the bridge to that agency for a while, but that won't matter because you'll have your job. I would avoid if you're in a small market with few agencies.

Tell them and see if they counter . It's not that unusual . They really cannot hold you to it

like

Agree with ACD2, you're young, take the $ and bigger name. You can always tell the other place about the other offer and see if they counter again, but in the end, at this point in your career, $ and names matter.

I once got an offer I couldn’t refuse just THREE WEEKS after starting a big new job. It was an EP job, but I’d just been offered an HOP job that I wasn’t even looking for. I had to do it. But man, how??

The only thing I could do was to be perfectly transparent about what was happening. I took the partner who had hired me aside and told him the truth. He agreed: when THAT call comes, you take it. There were a couple of people at the shop who were salty about me jetting after three weeks, but the person who mattered to me in this situation was very supportive. No important bridges burned. I think that that’s because I showed him the respect of being totally candid. I think it’s the only way to come out fairly clean.

This isn’t a time for gameplay. Go to the person who hired you and tell the truth. They may counter or they may just wish you well. They will likely not hold it against you unless you make up some song and dance or try to use this to angle for a better deal. No sane person will begrudge you a promising opportunity. Be sure before you go in what you want. Don’t let this decision be dependent on what company A has to say. And as an earlier commenter said, don’t let money alone be the decider. Good luck!

Strictly anecdotal, but my bf started a job at Company A, and was offered another position at Company B two weeks later. He left, and Company A was pretty sad about it, but seemed to understand, and then when he eventually left Company B about a year and a half later, was able to get his his boss from Company A a gig at Company C. So you don’t always end up burning ALLLLL the bridges :)

I was an intern at Company A. They offered me a position. The other writer interns were super sad that they didn’t get an offer, but that I did. Bu nonetheless, I was super excited, even though the agency and account was just so-so. I accept. They announce it in front of the whole agency and even throw me a happy hour that day.

The next day I get an email from Company B. It was for my dream account. We had been in talks previous to my internship at Company A, but we just couldn’t work out the timing. I tell Company B I had already accepted an offer the day before. The recruiter says, “just talk to the ECD and hear what he has to say.” I agree to it knowing that I wasn’t actually going to consider it, because rescinding my offer at Company A would be a dick move. But I figured it would be worth developing a relationship with the agency so that I always had the option to hit them up when the time came.

I talk to the ECD at Company B. He told me, “why would you work at Company A if the work can’t and won’t compare to here.” He sold me. He always had that ability. I accept Company B’s offer. Then I drive 3 hours to Company A, walk in and quit to my recruiter and two CDs in person. It was the hardest thing I had ever done. I was so fucking nervous. They totally understood.

I’ve never looked back. It was a life changing decision that paid off. Those people were my family. I was sad to have left Company B. Think about my family there all the time.

I’ve backed out of signed offers. You risk burning a bridge but you ultimately have to do what’s best for yourself.

So I’m late to the Indian Matchmaking series. Is it the guy who has to be wealthy and the women who need to come from wealth? There doesn’t seem to be a lot of emphasis on what the women do for a living, but the men all seem either well-off or getting called losers. Is that what people look for in real life too? So there’s no place for women on the come up to be with someone above their own social class?
