Depends on your niche, I guess. If you're doing something like capital market transaction advisory, then you could get stuck in it if you stay much higher than manager. If you're an accounting advisory generalist, then doesn't really matter

Oh that shouldn't be a concern. They might prefer someone who's had a tad of industry experience at higher levels, but SMs and even Directors leave all the time for industry with only public exp

I’ve seen directors exit to business strategy & fp&a. Just need to figure out how to market your experience and make sure you’re learning the commercial side of deals as well. Definitely gets harder as you are more senior but not impossible to land a non-accounting role. Even saw a SM go to FDD
Depends on how close you are to manager. If you're an S3, stay til manager. If not, I think it's better to leave as a senior. I'm an M1 looking to leave and having trouble since I don't have industry experience.
