Accounting is a twisted profession. We work crazy hours for a moderate paycheck. As an intern (including overtime) I was making as much as a manager. What gives? Why do we put up with the hours?

More shortsighted kids here. You make 100k in 6 years and your ceiling is a lot higher than that. The income to time ratio is only bad in your first couple years. You're also a winter intern... that manager works a lot less in the summer.

I think it's a combination of supply and demand (just say "big4" and hundreds of naive students will be willing to take the job) and the types of people who end up working in accounting. First, they are overachievers so they get a kick out of working more than someone else. Second is they value job security and hope that by working more they can increase it. Third might just be the desire to learn. I personally don't care about first and second as much but o certainly feel like if I worked eight to five I wouldn't learn as much because I would spend my time trying to fly through the work and get out on time instead of trying to understand it.

I couldn't agree more with the point on short sightedness. No intern earns anywhere near what a manager makes. Maybe you could theorize that based on working overtime for a very short period of time, but that'd never project to a full year. Nobody here is "underpaid". Your paid based on market value commensurate with your experience. Reality is there are thousands of college students chomping at the bit for limited roles here. What makes you think you're so valuable compared to the rest of people dying to get in who didn't?

And no I'm not a kool-aid kid, you can put the time in for public then jump to a 40 hr job if you want.

And people are posting 17 whining threads a day who clearly are working the first jobs of their entire lives. Good train entertainment

There's a reason turnover is so high. Sure, people would like to work here, until they actually do. Then they're miserable. I was one of them until I started

How do you handle attraction in the work place. During my summer internship I was really attracted to this girl I shared a office with. She was way out of my league so I didn't even attempt to ask her out or anything. Plus you don't hookup where you vlookup. During one of the days she wore a really short skirt and I got a bit aroused. Since my housing was really close, during lunch I went home and fixed the issue. How do you handle being aroused at work?

Potentially a dumb question, but for the employment history part of the application, should you include internships? If so, do you annualize the amount of your internship pay? I’ve included them in my resume but feels a little weird to put them at the same level as my first full time job.
