Stretch that training out dawg! The slow click...
I have heard same as OP that we are encouraged to charge bench time to training or BD code than unassigned.
Training is still nonbillable, so don't think it is much better to spend there vs unassigned. Not being billable is the real problem, not which wbs you spend it on
A3, you're encouraged to do training or BD. If you're not going to actually learn a skill or help with a proposal, it doesn't matter which unassigned time you are from the firms perspective. That being said- grab some proposal work OP! That's how you avoid the bench in the future.
The unassigned time is inevitable! It's the worst but no way can I justify 8hrs of training!
My TFS sent out an email to our entire practice this week saying we weren't allowed to hit our unassigned WBS without written approval from our practice MD. So they definitely care which WBS you hit when you are on the bench....or at least my practice does.
The lean six sigma training on my learning is nice and long with lots of slow clicks, but it looks good if applying to short term strategy roles
Do a cert - some of them have hours of videos you have to watch but it's basic stuff.
Listen if they're gonna have no bench time / available category they're asking you to lie to them about the amount of time you spend on development
Yes that is true A1! Though I know people who assign time to training when they are doing other activities!
edX or Coursera. it's a much better use of your time anyway.
Ideo human centred design is good too - you can ask them to add it into mylearning for you too so it is recognised in your learning history.
