Adios consulting! My dear FB family, it's my last week of consulting life. Taking an industry role in a week, please wish me luck that I can survive there.

Give you a year.. all I lasted before I came crying back

like

D1, most do it in bed but I like to get creative. Outside under the stars can definitely make you feel alive!

Love hate for sure. Been back 3 years and now considering leaving again EY1

like

M1, I hear you. consulting is a love hate relationship 😏

like

I was in industry and I never had the experience EY had. Loved every minute. Worked hard but had a life too. Had way deeper work relationships and was always challenged. There are lots of different jobs and industries. Hopefully this will be right for you!

A1, what company/role were you in? Looking for a job now and just interested in places to look

M1, I wish I knew what could compare to consulting. we keep coming back, it's like a toxic ex

I hope I last much longer than a year. @Deloitte1, I'm going to work for a telecom giant.

like

Was in industry for 2 years. Hated it.

like

For those that switched to industry and came back - what didn't you like? Very curious. Asking for a friend.

like

@EY2- I have never worked in the industry before. What didn't you like about it?

like

the pace was slower and a good respite at first, but then I got bored 6 months in. started losing my platinum status. my peers wanted me to have all of the answers b/c of my big 4 background. felt like I was losing my edge. I came back to consulting after 1.5 years. in hindsight, i would only go to top firms like GE, Google, etc... if i ever go industry again.

like

^^^ What EY1 said..... Money was great. Hours were nice. Use to meet with the csuite frequently. However I bored really quickly. Felt like I was the smartest guy in the room. Career progression is very slow. Lack of guidance around career paths and a lot outside hiring for very senior positions. Office politics were a lot worse and dealing with petty BS that have never seen at big 4. Many people just show up for their 8 hours watch you tube and go home. Not somewhere to be long term.

like

Everyone has different experiences/priorities/outlooks. You are smart and can make an educated decision. Don't be discouraged with the 'you won't last comments'. Much luck in your new career!!!

like

@m2- I was in healthcare. Not a ton of money and I worked in the people side ( org development, HR). Our company had a awesome culture and I worked with people who made me a laugh every single day. The only reason I left was because we had a new CEO who completely changed the culture and not in a good way. An amazing positive work experience may be rare, but they are out there.

like

A1, so it was for a healthcare company (like JnJ, Stryker, etc) and you were on the people side? Sorry for probing but I'm also looking for industry exits and very interested in the healthcare space.

like

Op- good luck. I was in industry and can't wait to go back. Just give yourself to me to adapt. I figure it takes about 3 mo to feel really comfortable.

OP, good luck! 🍾

Things that used to be easy and inspiring become difficult and suffering. Is anyone in the same position? How do you push yourself? Or should i just stop pushing and just leave.

You wouldnt ask a chef for a free sample of their food before you sit down and actually pay for a meal. So dont ask a freelancer to do a test run of work for your actual project before hiring them.

I started a new role in BizOps over the summer at a late stage FinTech startup making $150K base ($15K signing bonus) and stock options. I previously worked at a T2 consulting firm and went to a non-HYP Ivy for undergrad. Have 4 YOE (will be 5 at matriculation) I’m debating whether I should pursue an MBA. Long term goal is entrepreneurship / FinTech for developing economies. I don’t think I’d want to go back into consulting and I don’t think PE/VC is very feasible either. Any thoughts?

Due to covid I recently got laid off and am already not in my home country but have lived here over 7 years. Any advice? Me following him or we both try to find another job in the country we are in now.
