I have one question for adult Disney fans...why?

My family owns a timeshare and we go annually. We enjoy the rides which aren’t as “kiddy” as you would think, the food is amazing with some world class chefs, we get to enjoy the Florida weather and because we go annually we take things at our own pace and don’t worry about getting on 20 things a day. There is probably some nostalgia factor, but my parents bought the timeshare because they always enjoyed it, taking us, and want us to be able to take our kids someday. Also, we usually go in October when they throw a food and wine festival in Epcot geared towards adults - wine tastings, culinary demonstrations, various food booths, etc.

It’s smartly formulated media, easily digestible, sometimes a good surface to project more difficult emotions (and feel like they have a solution), nostalgia, etc. I don’t think I’ll ever be a “sing Disney unironically amongst friends” kind of person unless we’re talking stage musical performer friends, but I definitely throw on Nightmare Before Christmas routinely 🤷🏾‍♀️

People over 30 without kids that own an annual pass should be put on a list.

Bf and I recently got Disney+. Already went through everything we've been interested in on Prime, Netflix, Apple, and HBO. Call it an achievement unlock for pandemic times

What about listening to the songs alone in the car?

What is wrong with embracing positive memories?

I love Disney movies, and will watch and enjoy the new ones... But if you go to a Disney park more than once as an adult without kids, there is definitely something wrong with you 😂.. It's so strange.

like

Because they value a sense of nostalgia and stability and acceptance? I don't have an annual pass, but Disney to me provides safety, reminding myself of my inner child.

I don’t judge I think it’s about as weird as an adult into video games, rec softball, or cosplay (aka not). Maybe you’re a singer and love Disney’s excellent music? Maybe you’re an artist and respect Disney’s achievements in animation? Maybe you want to go to an amusement park and have an experience beyond the rides? This leaves out that Disney owns Star Wars, Marvel and ESPN

Lol what’s wrong with video games?

I knew a young couple who got married at Disney. I hear they do a great job actually. But yeah the personality type is ... Really something. It's been years since I've been but I just remember feeling amazed at the wastefulness of it all. They're air conditioning the local environment. To me it's an example of the short sightedness of humans, we're gonna have fun without thinking of the long term effects. Generating trash. I feel like it's in the same category as gender reveal parties.

Part of me completely agrees, part of me wishes I could get that passionate / shameless about anything in life. But then the first part reminds me no you don't wish that, would rather be joyless for the rest of my life than look another adult in the eye while I'm wearing a t-shirt with a make believe character on it

funny

How are you defining adult Disney fans? People whose personality revolves around Disney, travel to the parks frequently, have Disney themed weddings, etc.? Or just adults who will watch the new movies?

Anything beside the last one

A lot of Disney movies cater to adults. The parks surprisingly have many food and drink experiences which only adults would enjoy (International Food and Wine Festival as one example)

Yo I just rewatched half the marvel movies this weekend They are slightly genius

Love all the judgmental folks in this thread xD Disney is fun, if you don't like it then just be quiet? 🤷‍♀️

Disney owns marvel and Star Wars now. That’s a fan base of lots of diff generations. Not sure why you feel the need to crap on all of them.

Makes me think of when I worked at a coach outlet during our Disney collab. People were spending hundreds to get one of everything we had. We had a huge leather Mickey that was like $600+ and a woman bought it!! I never understood.

I always wondered the same but who am I to judge?

like

This wasn’t meant to judge. I literally wanted to know why. Is it the nostalgia factor? Do they genuinely just enjoy the rides? Etc

One of my fondest memories for my senior year of HS was going to Disney with all my best friends (still friends today) as a trip, we did everything in 7 days, a teacher gave us a pdf on how to strategize rides and using the fast pass and all that. My husband grew up in a diff country never really exposed to Disney. When it’s safe again I’m def gonna take him to Disney World. We are 27/28

Rides and alcohol and rides and a food and shows and rides

An interviewing company hasn’t offered me the job yet but is asking me for my visa documents so their counsel can take a look. I assume they want to see how much time is left before extending offer. Has anyone been in this situation yet? I’m a bit wary of sending over personal legal documents when things are still up in the air

How's Edelman NY? Getting hit up for Health which I've never done. It'll entail moving from advertising to PR/earned creative as they call it, and the Health category. Didn't sound like hard sell pharma, quite a bit of branded video content. I searched on FB, sounded mostly negative culturally (employee fired during Pride month, political, creatives better watch their backs, climate denier) with a few who love it. Figured I'll ask if anything's changed, if it's even worth ... considering.
