Advertising post-2008 was smaller budgets, leaner teams, no more boondoggles and risk-averse clients. What will post-COVID agency life be like?

Lower salaries to finally sync with title inflation. $170K for an “ACD” just five years out of college isn’t gonna fly anymore.

Look for the holding companies to make massive cuts. Except for the VP’s of course.

like

I’ll bite... - All holding companies will go out of business / bankrupt - 30-50% of traditional agencies will close their doors. - Nearly all the award shows will disappear. - Half the ad schools will go bankrupt. - Large agencies will be broken up into discipline-oriented (PR, design, interactive, etc) practices. - Agency middle management will be slashed and burned. Just junior/senior and director titles from now on. - Creative will take a back seat to proven effectiveness. - Media budgets will be cut by 25-50% client side - More budget will be moved into social, targeting, culture/engagement, etc and away from traditional media. - No more AOR. All work will be project based. - Virtual hybrid freelance agencies will start popping up where freelancers combine for a short period of time for 1 or 2 client projects. - NET RESULT: You’re going to see an explosion of great work fueled less to no agency bureaucracy and the desire to help the brand, not to win an award.

I'd love this!

•This will be the true end of print. •In-house agencies will be the norm now. •Testing will increase. Yes. Unbelievable. •Fashion/beauty/Decor industries will need the biggest support once this is over and this will trigger innovation. •Most importantly: consumers will remember those brands that were actively supporting people’s well-being during this crisis and will payback with support and buying their stuff after. Any brand that fails doing so right now will pay later. If you work for any of those brands, run as far and as soon as you can.

I got sick with what I at first thought was stomach bug last Sunday (vomiting, fatigue, then crazy chills and body aches). Lasted 1 day. My nose was also a bit congested, so went to get a pcr on Monday and got a positive result. Tested again at 2 diff places on Wed - 2 negatives. All pcr. Had no symptoms since Sunday. Has anyone had something similar happen to them? Was it just false positive (everyone’s been saying that almost never happens), or just super mild case of Covid?

How much is your rent? I make about 120k per year and live with my parents since covid started. Hoping to move out but NYC is super expensive. Need a baseline, no financial support from parents (low income) so have been saving in hopes of buying.

Has/did anyone find that their curiosity or number of interests hinder them in figuring out what they wanted to do with or after an MBA? Some days i could see myself trying to go into IB for a few years, but i have a lot of other personal interests that i could see myself trying to make a career out of. I’ve been thinking about taking the GMAT for two years but because of Covid/me not deciding what i want to do, i haven’t decided if i want to go down the mba route. Turning 28 soon

How often do you guys see your parents normally in non-covid times? Do you feel it’s too little much or wish you could see them more? In my 20s I used to see them every other month but as I’ve “settled down” in my 30s it’s been harder with distance and spouse so it’s down to once a quarter. Feel quite guilty and sad about it

Has anyone crossed the border (via car) into Italy recently? I know I need a covid test, I’m just wondering how this is actually… enforced. Are there border controls? Or is it more like random testing? Would be driving in from Austria for reference.

Black tie wedding planned for fall ‘21. Two questions for you classy folk: 1) I only have 1 real (non apple) watch 2020 JLC Master Control - but it is silver with light brown band (I always wear brown dress shoes). Is it too uncouth to wear it with black shoes / black tux? What about a navy tux (still prob have to do black shoes tho). 2) As you guys climb the latter, are there really ever occasions (COVID notwithstanding) where a tux is warranted? Debating buy vs. rent. Thanks!!

I have a brief resume gap from near the beginning of covid but have been at a new employer for >1 year. I’ve been asked about said gap during in-house interviews, but it’s generally been cursory and I give the explanation agreed upon by former employer. Was pressed a bit harder recently by being asked “will x former employer confirm [the story]?” Is this in and of itself a bad sign? Are they trying to catch a lie?

Latest vaccine numbers I saw from world data . Org was 6 million in US vaccinated. Not very exciting numbers especially since the Pfizer vaccine requires two doses doled out a month apart from each other, and then it takes an additional 30 days for the vaccine to be effective. In all seriousness, requiring 345 million more people to be vaccinated, we aren’t going to return to travel or the office until 2023. Thoughts?
