advice: asking for more money. currently making around $52k in an entry level position to my team. I know they’re considering me for a new opening coming in Q4, I’ve spoken with both my manager and VP about my career goals. I’m pretty sure that they’d fill this role anywhere in the mid 60s. if I were to get it, that’s a 10k pay bump for me, and I desperately need it. is that normal? I’ve never been in this situation b4 and want to make sure I get paid adequately but I’m young and have 0 insight.

OP add-on: I guess my question is - is giving a current employee this much of a pay bump normal? would they try to lowball me since they could just offer me a new title + a smaller pay bump? and if they try to do that, and suggestions so combat that? thanks so much in advance

I can only speak for the industry I’m in. Most promotions or job changes garner a max of a 10% increase. Companies push back harder for more than that. A 10% increase from where you are now is an additional $5.2k. However, you should always negotiate even with the 10k. The worst they can say is no. Don’t let them tell you well its more than what you are making now. If you moved companies you could easily make 20-30% more.

I was offered a position through a recruiter and the company is now doing a background check. I haven’t received a written offer letter or started any paperwork.

After receiving the offer I turned down a final interview with another company. I’ve also been invited to another interview with someone else.

I don’t feel comfortable continuously turning down interviews if I don’t have a written offer or started any paperwork. I want to email HR about the process but what should I say?
