Snip a tiny amount off the tip every night. It loses its effect and eventually they just don't like it.
We read “Pacifiers Are Not Forever” a few times and then took it away cold turkey a month before my daughter’s third bday. Surprisingly it was only one bad night. We were prepared for 3.
M1-My brother in law is a pediatric dentist/orthodontist. He said by 3 is fine. My daughter’s teeth shifted to normal within a few week after giving up her paci.
Following. What’s d day?
We did it cold turkey. It took a few nights but was easier than sleep training.
The big guy was 15 or 16 months old when we did it, and his baby brother came when he was 18 months. That young, he barely remembered he even used one. I only ever found him with it 1 or 2 times as a joke - he’s start smiling and was fake sucking it. 😅
M1 - delivery day!
Following. My 2.5 yo is in love with his.
Cold turkey worked and wasn't nearly as painful as I'd expected it to go, but my guy was a little younger.
We did cold turkey but he was younger when we took it away (right before he turned 1). He was only using it for naps and sleep at night. We started taking it away for one nap, then the other, and the third week we took it at night. It was rough for a week because it was hard for him to fall asleep. He cried for over 30 min the first night. We stuck to it and after 3-4 days he didn’t even miss it
We phased them out one at at time after each round of illness. I told my daughter that they were dirty and needed to go (not untrue!), she waved by and tossed them herself. Eventually we ran out and she was totally fine.
We did it right before my daughter turned 3. Blamed it on the dentist (also not untrue!)
D3 you mean the pacifiers being bad for teeth is untrue? Any links? That will make me feel much better about letting him keep his for a while longer!
We did it cold turkey on vacation. “I forgot to pack it” was the only acceptable answer for my 2.5 yo...cutting the tip, losing it, etc was always met with “buy more, please”. Plus, on vacation he had so much to see and do that he was zonked out by bedtime. Only a few minutes of sobbing the first night, less the second, and it was over by the 3rd.
