Did not personally do it, but I can be done as I worked closely with someone who did it as a staff 1.
That being said it’s incredibly difficult but it can be done.
Network, network, network. Be an absolute outstanding performer. Have your cpa done as early as possible. Don’t stay in audit past a year.
If you broke some of those already, then the answer would be to get into transaction diligence or fdd and then make the switch. Start as soon as possible.
Thank you. I have my CPA but also have been in PA for a little longer than a year (about 14 months). I’ve been applying to a ton of IB entry level jobs. It’s been tough to network in the current environment but I am trying to connect and reach out to people/recruiters in IB
Do a lot of homework and be familiar with the technical questions.
I did get interviews in IB but didn’t follow through bc they asked me start over at the very bottom. I would say it’s completely different than other interviews I had and I realized during the interview that I know nothing about IB.
This is what I did - prepared for several months on my own to learn the technical components and be ready for interviews, reached out to alumni that were at the bank I was interested in and set up informational interview calls with a few of them who then passed along my resume to the hiring MD, then formally went through the recruiting process and ended with a superday. I think networking was key - I was more successful with getting through the recruiting process with banks and companies that I had previously networked with vs those that I just applied cold online.

Thanks for the insight. At what stage of your career where you at when you thought about making the switch?
What makes IB an alternative? I heard its competitive to get a role so wondering what's the deal.
Thanks OP. This is helping. All the best to you!
