This year has been insane. 200+ hours every month. July has been really been slow though. I’m at like 35 billable hours this month. I’m a first year in transactional and staffed on deals that haven’t picked up yet. I’m hesitant to reach out for work because I don’t want to be overwhelmed ... but I also am getting anxiety because I literally have nothing to do all day. Anyone else in this boat?
At my new job, we’re told to get 8 billable hours of work a day on our timesheet. Even when I thought I had a lot to work on, the most I could get was 5 hours. I’m super stressed about getting in trouble, even though I have actively asked for more work. I was unemployed for 9 months during this pandemic and I now I’m super afraid of losing my job again. Is this a normal practice? Idk how I’ll ever consistently have that much work.
Opinions? Management now requiring everyone to have 45 billable hrs per week, not including mandatory concepting n pitch work. Most people participating in 2-3 initiatives at same time. Is this normal
I’ve never worked at a firm, only public interest and have no idea how to do billable hours.
Padding my billable hours like
If you are an associate assisting on a file, you get cc’d on all emails and take time to read them and stay up to date, however you aren’t actually replying to the emails or doing any billable work. But you need to stay in the loop for when you need to eventually draft a document and know the facts. How do you record your time for these emails?
Hey folks! Hope everyone is safe and sound. Who is working on billable work and who is on the bench ?

Having my performance review soon. Have not met my billable hours last year due to lack of work. I have been very proactive and constantly emailed partners to inquire about more work. I will be a 4 year associate this year. Thinking to negotiate my level/compensation. Any advise?
My peers are not getting as much work as me. I pride myself on being a hard worker and a team player, but it’s getting out of hand. I have been working 80+ billable hours the past month+
Have a call on Friday with the CEO of an environmental entrepreneurship non-profit. It could lead to a professional opportunity and maybe even billable work I can refer to my firm down the line. I’m going in with an open mind but little concrete information on his entity and goals and ways I could get involved. What questions would you ask such a person?
I’m looking at changing careers from screenwriting to copywriting. How likely am I to get an internship/job at a good company without going to portfolio school? Or is portfolio school 100% necessary in order to land at the upper echelon agencies?

Do you like to stay up late and work? I'm a night owl and with WFH sometimes I like to exercise late hours, but then of course I have to get up on time and send off the emails and questions first thing in the morning, because no one wants to hear from me at 3am. Anyone doing a better job at this?

Do any fish out there have excoriation disorder (chronic skin-picking)? I acquired this really bad habit while WFH and am starting to fear that I will not be able to kick it before going back on-site. My finger tips are always bleeding to some degree or missing skin lol. Might freak the client out. Would appreciate advice if anyone has kicked this habit.

Moms, both husband and I are nearing the end of our parental leave. We live in a two bedroom in NYC. We are thinking of hiring a nanny. The plan is that I would work from one room and husband would work from another room. We can move the changing table and pack n play in the living room, and the nanny and the baby can hang in the living room. Does this sound like a good plan?
