Too risky

Say you found a new project that better fits your career aspirations, which is 100% true. If you have a good relationship then they will support you. If they don't, then be glad you're leaving anyway

like

Too Risky. Only notice you should give is your two-week

If you tell them you’re leaving you’re an idiot, if you roll onto the project you’re an asshole, if you tell them not to roll you onto the project you’re a jerk. Pick the one you’re happiest with and go with it.

I will hit the 1-year mark as an M in September. If I can come up with another reason than Leaving to tell my SM, great. But hard to do when the understanding is I’m gonna deliver this next phase. All ears for another way to do this other than saying I’m not gonna be around to finish/I don’t want any part of this one.

like

You can hire an ancient oracle, pwc. Actually jk it is a benefit / program for managers and above to get two months paid "leave" essentially to just go look for another job.

like

...just wrapped up, and it would likely really burn the bridge with my current SM (and perhaps some pretty senior partners). I also know for some other reasons that this next phase will be semi-disastrous so I kind of want to get out of it, even though I have a good (but only 4-month) relationship with SM. Should I be honest about my intent to leave? Too risky?

Tough call. Try to start finding your replacement now, haha

Is September a sure thing? Or still interviewing

Still interviewing. But I could do the 2-month Seeker when this one wraps up, so I’d have about 4 months to line something up. Have a final round for my #1 target coming up and am in early encouraging talks with a few others.

Are you a new M promote? Why are you worried about burning bridges? Or is this a pride thing

I've thought about Seeker too, but honestly it's worse if you end up rolling off to do that rather than just peace-ing with 2 wks notice.

Unless your skillset is very unique and is difficult to replace, 2 weeks notice should do. If you have an exceptionally good relationship with your SM, then that is a different story

D2 the issue isn’t giving my notice - it’s figuring out how to get out of a project/relationship a few months ahead of giving notice (without an offer in hand), ideally without massively pissing off an SM I generally like.

What is this seeker you speak of?

Do you have a partner sponsor you trust? I would tell that person and get into seeker program. 8 weeks paid job search. But you would likely forgo bonus or get smaller one. I would say just simply tell the SM that you are not able to do the project for personal reasons that you would like to not get into, but you are happy to transition in another resource. Or say you intend to take a LOB to take care of some personal matters.

That’s great

A partner said on a client call that we really miss an associate I’m filling in for and that the team should be up to speed when she gets back. I can’t help feeling a bit slighted by that. I get that she’s much more senior (I’m a 1st year who started a couple of months ago) but I don’t think I’ve done a bad job at all. My first brief was spot on arguments wise and didn’t have much redlines. Am I reading too much into it? Should I check in with him to ask if he’s unhappy with my work?

I switched from audit to consulting, and I thought I’d enjoy my job since I’m no longer ticking the box.. doing something that’s more challenging (what people said lol) .. helping the client etc etc but honestly the job seems pretty much the same. I still work on meaningless BS stuff. Is it because I’m not in ‘real’ (strategy) consulting? I do process improvement / CFO advisory. Or are all corporate jobs pretty much the same other than the pay / wlb (which is def. better)

Here's the situation. I'm a freelance accountant. I have several part time clients, and one main 30-40/hr/week client. This is about the big one. The company has two co-presidents, but for the sake of clarity I'll call the person I directly report to the COO and the other the CEO - note the CEO also is the founder of the company. Again, I report to the COO. The COO is "working" in exchange for greater equity in the company and a crap ton of pay along the way. Cont.
