I don’t see why you would even take that role. It’s a step down, not in line with your personal goals, and I doubt it would be beneficial to your career to take a step backwards. Is there something I’m missing?
From being a SM at EY to a M at ATK - does not make sense in my books.
My 2 cents - stay with EY, enjoy your secondment in UK and come back enriched with good international exposure. The EB1 based GC will be an added perk.
ATK is saying they can make transfer happen in 2+ years. Current a Senior Manager at EY on H1B. Life has become difficult on H1 - husband and I want to adopt, but we can’t. Secondly, all my amendments went into RFE. Got an offer for Manager at ATK. They are saying transfer is not guaranteed, but if it happens, it will happen after 2+ years. Now confused whether I should bear the brunt of living on H1 and take the risk with ATK and if it’s even worth it.
Would stay at EY and go to London! It's so hard to grab international experience & it's preferred to be considered for future roles in EU - from what I've read. I'd agree with previous comment, ATK a step backward. Stay the course!
I believe this group misunderstands the titles at A.T. Kearney.
Help me understand the move needs more clearly
As a person who started his career at EY, if a title the the driver for you versus the role you play; and you think the title of Senior Manager is the same as Principal in the marketplace...
Principals are definitely leaders in A.T. Kearney and seen as developing partners. No one is elected Principal that the firm does not believe will be partner if they want to.
An an important point, it is a globally elected role, not a “promotion”.
Compensation is much higher at ATK. Exit opportunities can be better. Path to partner may or may not longer. In my opinion, ATK appears to advance higher performers faster.
I think that you need to be honest about your skill level. The big risk with switching isn't a step backwards. The big risk is that if you're not a high performer you won't be transferred to the UK and will be outcounseled. More risk, more reward.
I probably wouldn't make the switch if I was in your situation given the shorter jump to Principal and the higher level of competition.
Plus, if you're not on the path to advancing from Senior Management to Principal at EY, then you're probably not going to advance from Manager to Principal at ATK. The difference is that ATK is more up or out.
Which service line in ATK? I used to work there before EY and did a brief international stint in London just for the L1A reason. The transfer and mobility in ATK highly depend on the practice / service line you are in.
All pretty smooth and easy. Straight forward. But I heard things have changed recently...
No, ATK Managers become Principals and Partners are top of the food chain focused on account building. Zero mis-understanding of levels in my case. OP is one level from Partner at a B4 firm, it’s not unreasonable to hold out for the same growth potential.
