Advice needed: looking to leave public accounting and tax for good. I have two offers between a financial analyst and an accountant role. Based on your experience, which of the two has the best/better exit opportunities (should I decide to pursue the finance realm or something else) and better work life balance? The bigger pay as an analyst is tempting, but the company benefits are meh.

Can you confirm what the financial analyst role actually does? Most of the time, financial analyst is just a fancy name for an accounting role.

Thanks for your insightful feedback SA 1 and SFA 1!

I was in finance so I am surprised to see how many people here wanted to get into FP&A. To me, it is just running a program every month to forecast and doing PPT prep for management. This job will eventually go away thanks to data analytics. There is good WLB for sure. For accountant, it could get busy during month, quarter and year end period. Depending on the company, it may have no WLB either. Also, general accountants (other than AP or AR, or billing) make less than financial analyst. So I would still choose financial analyst over accountant only because of money and WLB. But you will need to learn data analytics or SQL. For me, FA is lesser evil than the other. Good luck.

Biglaw first year deferred from September to late January with a $10k advance. I had to incur $11,000 in credit card debt to live, & right when I started work, had a medical emergency that ended up costing me another $3,500. My paychecks have been smaller due to paying back the advance and prioritizing maxing out my 401k and HSA (my credit card debt was interest free). It was depressing working these hours to mostly just pay needs and my debt. Today I paid it all off! Woooooo! I feel so free.

Heading into benefits open enrollment and beginning to receive current provider renewal percentage increases (medical and dental) as well as market offers from other providers. Is it correct that at EY there are no levels among Partners? Of course, as you get more tenure you comp increases and you likely get leadership position, but there are no specific levels at EY like you have at MBB Partners (e.g. P, MDP, SMSP at BCG).
