Yr attorney, I only have so much experience. Would you (more senior attorneys) advise on taking a job even if it’s not exactly in the area that I want to practice in, or focus fully on starting my own practice at this point of my career? Also not knowing how long industries will suffer due to Covid makes me feel like I should take the job. Financially my spouse can support us until I start making more money. Thoughts?
I am a newer attorney but I would take the job.
I have been an attorney for 20 years and was laid off after more than 15 yrs in a specialized field. It took me more than 9 months to get one job offer in a related practice area, very difficult transition. Long story, short - I would take anything that gets you experience in multiple practice areas, especially if they are even tangentially related. This makes you more marketable whether you set up your own firm or work for someone else.
