Advice on leaving a job you’ve had for 8 years and from directly out of college? I’ve been here since I graduated, been promoted twice but now am looking for something else. I have a third round interview tomorrow and if offered the job I would happily accept, but I am so nervous about quitting. These people have seen me grown up from a 22 year old college grad to who I am today. I’ve babysat for multiple co- workers and they’re seriously like my family. Any and all advice would be appreciated!

PS - I got the job! Will be putting in my 2 weeks on Monday - wish me luck!

Congratulations 🎉

I think you have less to worry about than you think! You mentioned that they've seen you grow up, and they're like you're family. Most likely they'll be happy for you to find a new opportunity that's exactly what you want, even if that means you're leaving them. I would just be professional and kind about it, and let them know how much working with them has meant to you. You aren't doing anything wrong by moving on, and it doesn't devalue the time you spent with them. Hopefully they'll be able to see it that way as well.

Don't let fear of change stand in the way of your career growth and future happiness. At the end of the day, it's business - regardless of how many friends you've made there. I've stayed in touch with half a dozen of my coworkers that I've befriended over the years. You have to do what's best for you. You'll be fine!

I was in this same position back in 2015. first employee at company, like family. Stayed too long and then suddenly let go. Worked out a nice settlement but as they say “staying too long is a bigger risk than leaving too soon’ Very happy with decisions made in 2015 and where I’m at now.

I agree with manager one. Take the leap! I was in your same situation many years ago. You have to do what’s best for you at the end of the day. Besides you can always boomerang back 😅

Thanks everyone!

Congratulations on the new role! ☺️
You won’t regret it. It’ll challenge you in the best way possible.

The relationships that are meaningful will carry with you into the future and will support your new opportunity and celebrate with you. Take care of your career and move on.

Some of my closest friends today are people I met early in my career and we have all made many career changes but our friendships stay strong.

Has recruitment slowed down? I've been looking for opportunities since June, had about 3 interviews. Haven't had many calls at all in last one month?

Hi, I need your honest opinion on this. Currently I have done AWS cloud practitioner certificate and want to progress but I don't think to like Solution Architect that much, I feel it will be boring for me. I love to create things, and love data manipulation, so I found this course in Google data engineer + AI... I feel it might be good fit for me. What do you think about it. Am looking for something I can study and stick with it long run. Thanks 😊.

I can take a promotion at my company, or accept the same position at another company for the same pay. Is the job title really worth more work?

I was recently offered a Zoom interview. The school had 10 interview slots for me to choose from. Three were one day this week and the rest are next week. I chose the first time slot available. Should I have waited until one of the last slots so I was fresher on their mind when choosing a candidate? I am just sitting here stressing out until I here something. Also, do interviewers still appreciate a hand written thank you for the interview?

Currently a Wealth Advisor for Citi but I honestly hate it here with a passion it’s the worst company I’ve ever worked for in my life and I’ve been in Wealth Management in the banking channel for over a decade. Series 7, Series 63, Life, CFP, ChFC, and soon to have my MBA with a focus in Mergers & Acquisitions. I’m look to enter another area of Finance at this point instead of starting over somewhere else from scratch, but not sure what direction to go. Interested in Investment Banking or M&A.

Question for consultants in healthcare, what books have you found helpful in your career? I’m starting soon, but I come from a clinical background, and haven’t been exposed to that much beyond that. I have been doing a lot of reading (mainly JAMA/NEJM articles on policy, HBR articles, Christensen and Porters books on innovation etc). I’ve found them immensely helpful (I’m still early on, so I learn a lot with each new book). Outside of news sources, what books have you found helpful?
Thank you!

Hey folks, any ZSers on here willing to share some input on interviews? I'm an industry hire with a 3rd round interview for Bus Ops Consultant coming up in about a week. I got through the 2nd round (behavioral/structured .ppt case) just fine. Should I prepare differently for the next round?

I got an offer from firm 1 before the memorial holiday and have been stalling because I am waiting for an offer from firm 2..
I was working with a partner from firm 2 who got me an interview with the managing partner.. I got a verbal offer last week.. the staff told me they are processing the paperwork.
Should I still wait for firm 2? I feel like I can’t stall anymore.. I feel like I really should give firm 1 a response this week 😮‍💨 but I don’t want to lose both offers

Up to what point is it feasible for an MBB analyst / associate to switch into banking in the US without going the MBA route? How many YoE? I know it's generally tough to switch after a couple of years, but since MBB is so prestigious I'm wondering how much that helps. You can assume transactional experience.

What about in geographies other than the US, anybody got insights?

I just had a performance review at a biglaw firm. It was my first review since I lateraled from a small firm in my 6th year of practice. The review was very positive and the panel went through all the comments left by the partner reviewers, except one. One partner said: “showed he is able to perform at the level of a partner.” He’s the only partner to have said that. Anything to read into based upon the way this comment was ignored? Do they worry I’ll get presumptuous if they acknowledge it?

Has anyone else had a mentor (assigned to them by the Company) who seemed to have it out for you? I mean downright sabotage to make you look bad left and right. I didn’t realize it at first. She was fake friendly, but she was discrete too. Some of the executives thought she was amazing, but I had to clean up her work all the time. She wasn’t above me either on the chain of command. Later I found out she had tried for the exec assistant role and they didn’t choose her, they wanted me instead.

I have been offered a lateral move within my company to a role I (believe) I will be more interested in that will suit my skills more. However, I’ve now been offered a promotion in my existing Role, and have heard that this is a pretty big deal and almost fast track to Director. Am I mad to pass up a promotion for a lateral move that is unlikely to promote me for some time?? I’ve been in my existing role almost 2yr. Will it affect my future growth? I’m 30 so would love to be a director soon
