Hi Fishes,
Recently I got an offer from Deloitte. The offer value they told is different and the value they projected in the offer letter is different. Does anyone had a similar experience. How does the variable pay and the hike cycle works in Deloitte? Please help me understand Deloitte USI Big 4

Hello everyone,
I am looking to get into generalist consulting positions for temporary year with late January 2023 start date at Big 4 (Deloitte KPMG PwC EY) along with Accenture. Would anyone be willing to refer me for those firms? I was hit with a series of trauma caused by multiple attempts for getting into McKinsey & Company Bain & Company and Boston Consulting Group and looking for future referrals as well for the master’s program that I am planning to pursue for August 2023 intake.
As in working as an accountant post law school (somehow) or as in working at an accounting firm as a tax lawyer?
If you mean the first one, you’re signing up for lower earning potential, but most likely better WLB.
If you mean the second one, nothing wrong with it. Pay is decent, not as good as biglaw, but better hours. Good lateral opportunities too.
I’m a 3L btw if that matters.
So the official job title is tax associate but they’re funding an LLM
Oh okay. I’m going into tax law too and some classmates of mine are going into what I assume is a similar position at big4 firms. Great position in my mind—you get to handle sophisticated tax issues, decent pay, good avenue to lateral into biglaw if you like…etc.
Paid for llm is awesome if you want to do an llm, but recognize that tax llms are generally unnecessary as they are not required for the majority of tax law positions with an exception for clerking on the tax court, then it’s kind of required. Also, there’s really only a handful of schools from which a tax LLM is marketable (if you already know this stuff, sorry for repeating what you already knew).
Happy to answer more specific questions/concerns too.
I disagree that tax LLMs are not required for the majority of law positions. Had my LLM since 2010. Worked in public accounting for a few years and then went back into law firm. I think unless you have 20+ years of experience, every single positing I’ve seen for younger tax attorneys requires an LLM. all of the jobs I have have included it in the qualifications. Plus, If you are looking to go back into law firms, there are many partners who are skeptical of your ability to practice the law aspects of tax (as opposed to the accounting functions). An LLM helps there. Not saying to get an LLM if you don’t want to be a tax attorney. But I wouldn’t be so dismissive of its necessity. And if someone else wants to pay for it, that’s a big bonus!
Thanks for your insight, I really appreciate it! Good luck with your tax career as well!
Thank you!!
