Advice please: if HR said a number that’s lower than your expectations and they also said it’s the highest they can go, would you still negotiate? Thanks!

Depends if you are willing to turn down the offer. If you are say “sorry I’m not prepared to leave my current role for less than $XX.”

Depends on
1) market - know what the real range is for your experience and the role you are going for
2) how desperate you want to leave
3) negotiate other benefits or aspects of compensation
4) find out when raises are, you could be getting underpaid now but if company has a 6/30 year end then you could be up for another raise/ bonus

like

Ask around and find out how much others make that are in the same / similar position (role and level of experience) and then go to HR and be like “but they make this much” in a whiney voice. That’s what I did and look at where it got me

funny

Depends on what I know about the market range for the position, and if I've already pushed a bit. You can always try for higher bonus or time off instead of base pay increase, or try to negotiate an earlier review for a raise depending on the company.

Maybe ask for signing on bonus - but that's only a temporary fix

Yeah they offered a small sign on bonus

Is 5k worth negotiating? Thanks!

Absolutely. You can get that extra $5k elsewhere and there’s a compounding effect.

I went client side and am miserable - it’s madness on this side. Have made it 90 days and would prefer not to make it more than 120 - but we’re in a pandemic. Half of the problem is that I “onboarded” remote and the onboarding was TERRIBLE. The other thing is that there is no process and I’m on a team full of managers who have spent 15 years at this company and have no availability to talk to me with a day full of meetings. I’d prefer not to quit without a backup but I cry every day.

I started at a new firm this year in January. I had a billable goal that was given to me mid year of around 1750 house for the year. I am nowhere near that and definitely will not meet the goal. I had so many non billable hours I was forced to take when I first came in. I worked my ass off in busy season. At my previous firm I never fell short of hours as it was B4. This firm is mid sized and more focused on WLB. My question is how bad do you think this will affect my comp??

Have virtual interviews tomorrow and Friday (both with same company) - I know 150% if I got an offer, I would not accept. Had a ton of coaching meetings this week regarding a different offer I’ve been considering and I don’t want to leave my current place of work. Cancel tomorrow and Friday interviews or no cancel and potentially get an offer and decline? (I am fairly busy so biggest opportunity cost is my time and having to wfh to do video interviews during the workday)

Any CPAs here that studied and took the GMAT after licensure? Currently looking into prep paths for it, am interested to hear perspective from someone who took both on how you prepped for it compared to CPA. After the hell of passing all 4 CPA exams what I've read so far about the GMAT honestly makes it sound fairly straightforward in comparison, but I don't want to let my CPA ptsd influence me into underestimating it if it's way more demanding than it looks on the surface.
