This is the nature of leadership, sadly
People dont really respect that it is not virtuous to discuss your leader openly
The best thing is if you dont like the leader’s style, then meditate/pray/therapy or just leave
(Only a handful of leaders are willing to accept and apply feedback)
God wanted you to know this was happening behind your back. God will heal you and reward you for the times you went to bat for her
From my own experience, be extremely careful. Backstabbing never ends well.
It’s the absolute worst part of leadership, it’s rare that everyone will like you or acknowledge when you’ve gone to bat for them.
I would have an open conversation with the employee. Just let her know you are sorry she felt she couldn’t come to you to talk and what can you do to have more open lines of communication? If there are specific things she talks about in the message I would address them directly and try to learn from it. Hopefully she will learn as well.
Also, if she is an HR employee, she needs to learn to keep things confidential and having a conversation recorded and not knowing about it would concern me.
Maybe everyone has these issues and you need to have a team meeting. I would want to figure it out and try to make things better in my group.
Since the message is so old it would be odd to talk to her now. As if you’re harboring this. Take the knowledge you have from it and remember actions speak louder than words so show her how valued she is
