After 3 years, I recently changed companies. I have only been here 1 month however I quickly realized it is a toxic environment and long term success/happiness will not be here. How do I go about this? I feel any new company I interview with will see this as a red flag with me not even giving this company a chance. However deep down I know it’s the right move. Thoughts?

Ok here is the thing: I think it is MUCH better to make the move sooner and it shows potential employers that you are fast at spotting when you need to course correct. It is an employees/candidates market right now anyhow so I think go for it. Obvs don’t quit your job without another offer on the table though. Good luck! It will work out in the end

Leave it off your resume and say you were freelance consulting for this short period of time

likefunny

Then say you took time off to travel and that’s why you freelanced while you did that

Completely wrong, no company with a healthy culture will judge a candidate who applies after 1 month because they don't feel cultural fit and think the environment is toxic. Think it's an important and fair signal, just be open about that.

I know this feeling. In my last job, I realized after about 3 months that things were super toxic (well my manager who made EVERYONE miserable and was awful at his job to boot)

I was upfront with people I interviewed with without bashing the company. I simply said it wasn't a good cultural fit. Most people understood and a couple even said "yeah, sometimes you get somewhere and it sucks".

One thing to keep in mind, the types of companies/people who don't understand your situation or knock you for it are not people you want to work for anyway. It's almost self-fulfilling, people who don't like that will weed themselves out and help you dodge the next bullet. Best of luck to you!

I think in this culture most companies realize that sometimes there's fits and sometimes there's not. Since you're there for a bit, try to make it the best way you can and use that experience in your next interview. Also make sure you ask the right questions at your next interview. You're interviewing them as much as they interview you.

Can I ask what company so we are all aware of which has a negative culture?

just add as a 30 day gig for a small project

My partner is still out of work from being laid off due to COVID and made it to a final round interview that he thought went well , and got a denial email this morning. I was so excited to finally not feel so much financial pressure as his unemployment is stalled, but I just feel terrible, like this will never end and start to impact our relationship because he can’t pull his weight with the bills. Plus, I have a presentation today and just feel so distracted — an awful awful morning.

Is there any point in having an interview with a company you don't really want to work for? I've been applying to a lot of jobs lately and I'm starting to get some responses, but after looking more into these places, I don't want to work for them. Good practice for the interviews that matter or a waste of time?

I know that Google often lowballs nowadays unless you can show a competing offer, preferably from another FAANG. I am in the middle of interviews at Google and a recruiter from Facebook reached out. Trying to decide if I should try and get an offer from them for leverage. Does anyone know whether Facebook will send over the offer in email form before I verbally accept? I know some companies refuse to put anything in writing unless you verbally accept.

So I'm interviewing, have had loose salary conversation (talked about band but not specifics), and approaching the official offer stage. It's become clear the role is something I'm very well qualified for, but their pay expectations for the role are much lower than mine. How do I ask if there is (though from what I can tell there is not existing and we'd have to create) a higher level position in the team in a higher salary band I could take instead?

How do you know if/when it's time to switch careers?
My current job has a solid progression to make more money, but it takes years to get there. I make about $70k right now. As a data engineer/analyst. Primarily work on the engineering side, but I went to school for analytics. I never saw myself doing the engineering role, but when I first took it, it was a great start to my career.

I was offered a new position mainly in management in a completely different industry for $100k and bonuses.

Anxiety before your sales demos?

Do these 2 things I used to do to get over it:

1. Know the product inside out - it will take time for you to gain confidence in your sales abilities but if you know the product will you’ll be more confident in that domain.

2. Do more demos - the more calls and presentations you do the more comfortable you’ll get. My advice is to try to get on a lot of presentations, even with leads that aren’t so good.
