After an interview, should I send a thank you email?

Yes, but fair warning—if you get the job and go to work there, you will have partners accidentally sending work emails to your personal account for the. rest. of. time.

likefunny

That’s not true.

Yes, but do. not. get it. wrong. Don't mix up info from one interview with another interview, and no typos. Just a few sentences saying it was nice to meet them, you're very interested in the firm, you enjoyed talking about such and such.

Yes, within 24 hours.

I prefer thank you cards to emails

Honestly it's such a simple thing. Do it. It's no different from sending a follow up after meeting someone at a networking event. Some people won't care, but it's about casting your net(work) wide and sometimes it's just that little boost you need to cement a good impression. For such a low effort, it can have a huge payoff.

like

I appreciate getting them. Keep it short and to the point.

like

Absolutely but, as the others said, keep it short and make sure it is accurate and without grammatical errors. Don’t send a mass email either. Send individual and personal emails to each person with whom you interviewed.

like

Yes, I do think it’s a nice touch, but I would not expect a response or follow up directly with the interviewer for updates.

like

I ignore them and have never once cared when I haven’t gotten them. I also hate getting and sending thank you cards. If I thanked you in person, what’s the point?

like

I agree here. I have been in big law and in-house and I have never made a hiring decision on the basis of a thank you card. Add that to the risk that you’ll screw something up with a typo and I just don’t see the need. If you have a genuine interaction with an interviewer, where you want to send them an article you discussed or something along those lines, then go ahead. Again, I wouldn’t want to work somewhere where they hire based on etiquette.

like

Even if some of the people you send thank you emails to don’t care about them, it’s better to do that than risk pissing off the one person who does care. As long as it’s short, simple, and no typos, I think it is more of a risk to not send it. Also, ditto on the don’t expect a response. I’m guilty of not responding when I’m busy, but it means nothing!

like

Only if you want the job.

Yes!

1000% yes

In person is enough for an interview.

like

Nope. If they contact you, then reply.

Yes and make sure you send to everyone. If you forget someone, you will be talked about.

Not even a question. Of course you do.

I had a lot of meetings/interviews with a service line and office I was thinking of transferring. The last time I had a call with a partner was two Fridays ago (10 days). After months of networking and trying to break into consulting, I managed to secure one interview. I was really nervous at the beginning of the interview so I started off a bit shaky and didn’t come up with the perfect structure, but did really well on the rest. Today I got the rejection email and their feedback was that I need to work on the structure. I had worked on my structure for so long and I only messed up because I was nervous. I feel so defeated with no more interviews. Wtf do I do? 😓

In a week, I have a black tie wedding coming up at a beautiful indoor/outdoor city venue. I’m stumped about a dress because I’m also 3 weeks postpartum from my first child. I gained 50lbs during my pregnancy and have already lost 35 since the birth. (It’s amazing how much of it was just baby + bloat!) I am looking for a dress that will hide the mommy tummy (some loose skin that’s still tightening). I’m also nursing and my boobs are HUGE rn. Any recs on how to try to dress this new body?? 🥲
