Have there been previous performance issues? I had one counselee that came in as an experienced hire but really struggled even with an incredible amount of support and grace offered to him. When it was clear it wasn't going to work HR told me I had to document specific issues and give him a chance to work through them, which I did, but it took months with zero progress (honestly regression) before I could put him on a the performance improvement plan (essentially 30 day notice). Hours before I received the final approvals to communicate that to him he told me his wife was pregnant, probably a year after he should have been let go. His story is probably that my firm is terrible, we didn't support his career, and fired him because he was going to go on paternity leave. HR made the decision to proceed due to unanimous poor reviews from everyone he worked with and a huge paper trail of communicating issues to him and his failure to remedy
Who should I go to? I could tell that HR is totally against me.
I’d recommend filing for discrimination if you end up getting fired. I’ve seen a couple of cases like this that won for this same reason. That’s ridiculous and I’m sorry you’re going through that.
How?
Reach out to HR and have them work it out with your manager.
Cant speak about leave but if you think your manager is lying get a list together. Document everything you do.
I had to apply no earlier than 2 months before the due date and it was officially confirmed around a month later. There was some back and forth with paperwork in the mean time.
I second submitting a discrimination incident if fired though!
Submit a discrimination suit to who?
Some more details..I am the sole breadwinner and very stressed about this. I need health insurance for the birth of my child!
I technically have a few weeks to improve...they didn’t actually say I was going to be let go. Just wondering if I could do anything before the decision is made.
