I am leaving a project that I've brought from it's very starting phases where there were only a couple of us throwing stuff on a wall, scrambling to get our hands on information, to a large team fully entrenched and ready to deliver, and I can't help but feel a sense of overwhelming dread about going and doing it all over again.
The next team I'm going to is the same situation, starting from square one, no access to the information you need, client isn't aligned on where you need to go, and only two of us with a scope far beyond our ability to deliver. I know with time it'll get better, I can knock down the same barriers as before, but the idea of trying to replicate my previous success is daunting and filling me with dread.
I'm sure I'm not the only person who's been in this situation, so how do you hype yourself up for that next challenge?
This is the interesting part of our job. Now apply everything you’ve learned while avoiding the pitfalls. You’re now a SME and this is what SMEs do. Good Luck!
That's the double edged sword or consulting...if you really don't know how you're going to do it again, you might be ready for industry.
May be take a holiday to recharge before starting the new project.
And look for a longer term engagement.
