Consulting

After seeing a bunch of the posts on here about some of the exit opportunities people here have posted, I started applying a couple months ago. I just got an offer that's a little under 3x my current comp... And I'm totally speechless. Thank you to everyone here for motivating me to look for that next opportunity!!!

Amazing, congrats! But I feel obligated to say that a dollar in SF is not the same as a dollar elsewhere. May or may not apply here but I’ve had too many friends take “great” offers in SF only to realize that they can afford a much lesser life than they initially thought with state taxes, housing, etc.

I've been working in data science at Deloitte for the past four and a bit years, And they're bringing me in as a mid-level data scientist. So a lot of SQL, Python, R, ML, NLP style work. Also have three years of AWS and Azure experience.

I was trying to convince them to bring me in as a senior... but if I'm looking at it from an impartial view I'd rather come in at a level where I'm going to kill it versus a level where I could end up having some struggles

So going from 100k to 270k total comp? Regardless that's a wild percentage increase. Congrats

It's insane the difference.... Kinda pisses me off to be honest :/ but it is what it is. I didn't expect this kind of salary jump though... This exceeds pretty much all expectations.

Heartiest Congrats! You deserved it I’m sure. How hard was the interview? Heavy technical?

The technical bit was in SQL, the hardest part was actually the statistics/quantitative interview, I hadn't opened my stats textbook in 4 years so it was like relearning everything. Then they had two data case interviews which were pretty easy.

What sort of role / technical expertise? And that’s awesome, congrats!!

Was it within consulting?

Reaction Icon Like
Arrow Icon

Thanks! I did neither - I let them make the first offer, and then countered with another offer I had in hand. It was way outside their salary band for this level though - but they went to the max they could. They weren't able to get out of band approval, bit again I'm not mad. I got them to do a 35% increase pretty much across the board by having another offer in hand.

The reality of ageism hurts. Trying to stay relevant and likeable as a 33 yo female is something I’m having to work harder on than my actual job. I take virtual classes and do competitions to stay “current,” but I’m old enough to be the parents of some of my partners. I even attended an online seminar and asked the hiring manager at my dream agency if they’d ever consider hiring a mid-level 30-something, and she said that juniors bring the “freshness” and are more impressionable and adaptable.

Need advice on a promotion. I’m being asked the direction I want to go and my leadership is helping me build my network and path their. The issue is they are pushing to be more on the account/sales side and although this would be a huge step at my company I’m wondering how this will impact my future. I don’t want to always be in sales I’d like to eventually be a coo focused on ops. Looking for advice on if going into a sales role would hurt my chances of becoming a coo or if it’s the right move
