No. I've never had an issue and I've never felt close to having an issue.
I recognize that this is also because I am very adept at being polite while having a barrier that makes people keep their distance from me. I don't love having this trait because it makes dating very hard, but I appreciate its advantages.
I’ll have to agree with EY 1 - of course each situation is different and the victim is NEVER at fault. However a person that looks off guard and another one that looks very aware of surroundings can have an impact, as unconsciously you get the feeling the person with guards up can for example have a weapon to defend themselves. It falls within those lines of non-verbal communication.

Been using Uber for years, on a weekly basis, in 8+ countries, 20+ cities.
Never a single issue.
I guess I am just not that appealing...

Rape isn’t about the victim being sexually appealing to the rapist; it’s about power and control and the rapist wanting to rape.

I’m as afraid as before the report.
As afraid as before ride share apps and I could only use a cab.
As afraid as before I could afford cabs and had to use the subway or the bus at night.
This isn’t anything new.
It’s just more of the same.

And with Rideshare apps you can share your location as well as your drivers information with pretty much everybody in your contact list.
Aren’t the sexual assaults as a percentage of total trips tiny? Like under .0003%?
You’re far more likely to be assaulted by someone you know than by your Uber driver.
Growing up in a large city, I’ve always worried about this type of stuff, no matter if it was the subway, bus, taxi, etc. on my Lyft, I use a male name on my account. It makes drivers assume my boyfriend/husband order me the car and leave me alone :)
I I am always afraid something like this would happen. I always share my ride no matter what time of the day. I also never take Uber solo when drunk.
Sharing the ride / progress, including live location, allows someone to see A. If your ride deviates from planned or typical route; and/or B. If your ride stops somewhere other than your destination and/or C. If your ride is taking much longer than the estimated ETA.
I always hated the idea of getting into a strangers car, so yes I avoid Uber at all costs.
I’m not afraid but I always share my location / ride status with my husband or someone I’m traveling with and typically will talk to someone on the phone. I also use the comfort + option (or Lyft equivalent) which may be psychological, but I feel like it is a bit safer
No. Statistically I’m as likely getting assaulted walking down the street. I don’t stop walking down the street
I’d already heard plenty about sexual assaults in Ubers (and taxis, buses, etc.) before the report came out. Seeing it in print won’t change my usage. I am always on alert every time I got into a ride share or taxi or any mode of transit by myself.
