After three years on a project, I'm about rolling off. My client manager called me aside and said he wanted to talk to me as a friend. Basically said I've coasted for 3 years...contd

Lmao. He needs you and is trying to give you a low ball offer

like

"Your performance is shit, Id love to work together with you." Yeah nah

Wow

like

Wow, pretty impressed by the promotion stream. Didn't even know that was possible. You have to be doing something right in the consulting world to make that happen.

like

A1 someone lying on the internet?! That's unpossible!

like

Maybe by "coasted" he's trying to say you weren't utilized to your full potential and the role you had was too easy for you, i.e. a subtle compliment. Do you like the firm and the environment? If not then don't consider an offer and move on to the next project ✌🏼

like

How did you get promoted that fast in a staff aug role? 🤔

like

What group are you with OP?

like

MSAs have language preventing offers from clients either informally or formally without following protocol. Tell him to go through the proper channels if they want to make an offer and leverage it for a raise.

like

A1, definitely possible but I know I'm the exception. I honestly wasn't expecting the C1 to M1 promotion that fast. I was an experienced hire when I joined ACN but came in as an Analyst; that contributed to my rapid progression.

like

@OP you could tell client that it is hard to work at your potential when you're saddled with unmotivated clients and underwhelming projects...

like

...and he feels I didn't deliver the value I was paid for. And then tried to offer me a job because he thinks I won't make it out in the "real consulting world". This was my second project in the consulting industry. Mind you, I've gone from A1 > C1 > M1 in 3 years. I'm not sure how to feel about this.

Hahah you're 💩 I want to keep paying you because you might not make it in the world...solid argument!

E2, I like the people I've worked with on the client side, but no way in hell I'll work here. It's a staff aug role, and honestly has been rarely challenging. I've been trying to get rolled off the last year, but things got a little complicated and I had to stay back.

MC1, C&M/Cloud

Yeah, lowball. He will have to train someone else.

Have I been around too long? Since when do we use C&M/CDO as our "group" designation? Are you SC, TC, MC, Ops? Those are groups.

Any suggestions for how I get my CC on board with me going C to M in 1 year? I've started down the path that by being M I'll be able to further help with sales by having access to the right resources and that the client will pay for me at a higher rate and a bigger team under me but right now I'm stuck as a consultant and have hit the ceiling

Do the work of a manager, and it is the best case for getting there. It is EXTREMELY difficult to get it in 1 year. I went from C toM after 18 months and was a midyear promote. It was difficult and required a lot of buy in and sponsorship from MDs

Yeah I've been selling like a manager and have a team I've been managing for 15 months, I think my plan is to have each MD I've sold work with or helped meet with my CC to show confidence in my value

Is MBB (mostly thinking about McKinsey) really that bad in terms of WLB? I feel like people tend to exaggerate things sometimes - i was told i'd be working approximately 65h at Deloitte in Tech Strategy and honestly that barely ever happened. I wasn't considering switching since I love my job and my team, but many people are telling me I shouldn't "waste" my potential at Deloitte (whatever that means...). They kind of got to me and now i'm looking for more info about the culture/work at MBB.

I’ve been negotiating a settlement on behalf of a client. OP is a major corp. we’ve gone back and forth for months, almost a year. Finally came to a final agreement and we’re reviewing for final signature. Then client is reviewing and decides they want something else modified. It’s a point of contention. OP has said no. Should I communicate this to client before pushing back against OP’s rejection of the mod?

I’ve been helping a friend with her business and my god, I’m doing the job of client services- updates, reviews, recaps, notes, tracking information etc. - and the client is just constantly up my fuckin ass. I do not understand how people do this job. They’re the “I sent a text message to ask if you read my email type of people”. All praise to account people. I don’t know how you do this. I can’t wait to be back on the creative side of the world.

There's working late when you're trying to solve a problem or come up with a solution to something. And then there's working late when you're basically playing a game of "who's on first" trying to navigate a whole group of people through a very simple, straightforward one person task that should have taken 10 minutes, over the course of 4 hours through a maze of union rules, database permissions and client bureaucracy.

I’m new to consulting. Spent my entire career in industry where I worked on a closely knit team. My work style is to befriend my coworkers not only because I like to work with my friends, but also so I don’t feel bad when I call them on their sh** for not pulling their weight. I am the fulcrum and counterweight combined. I now find myself being taken advantage of and am too uncomfortable to confront slackers on an 18mo project. How do I find balance?

I’m a national buyer (linear tv and digital video). I’d like to move client side or to a consulting firm (because it seems most clients use consultants to manage buying rather than doing it in house). In terms of going client side - I’m finding that most clients want people with digital or as opps experience and my video expertise is obsolete, anyone know of clients that look for video expertise? In terms of consulting - Which companies have people liked working with regarding buying matters?
