How everyone in the US is so obsessed with that 🙈🙈🙈🙈

likefunny

No, D2 is spot on. Being poor in America leads to education and health outcomes akin to third world countries. That's objectively true. I only shared my experiences to highlight the difference in scale.

I've talked to people in the US who don't understand how they can get out. It doesn't matter how smart, talented, or hardworking you are. If you aren't aware of what's out there, you can't imagine a way of getting there. This may sound extreme to many Americans, but America is a huge place, and there are places like this.

The difference between America and other countries is that in America, you only need the right spark to focus your efforts not get out of a bad situation. Other countries don't have that. The tragedy is that other first world countries with fewer resources than the US have all but eliminated this type of poverty. You still have stark difference between the health and wellbeing between the richest and the poorest, but the poorest have better access to basic welfare.

Serious answer, whether you are behind or not depends on your retirement goals. No one knows what your goals are.

For example, for me, my goal is to be financially independent by age 45. So as long as Im making steady progress towards that, I am not behind.

like

I agree with this. I’ll add to that your retirement goal needs to be linked with how much money you need per year during retirement and how much you plan to leave behind (inheritance).

So count your blessings and try to see how you can help those who are behind . That is personally my source of “wealth “.

I’m interested in applying for the 2 years of full time work as an LCSW but my loans are a bit under 50k so I’m wondering if they would only give me what I need to clear my loans or would I still get 50k as long as I complete my contract ?

I heard someone make a bold statement that contributing to a traditional 401k versus a Roth 401k were the exact same assuming the same tax rate. I ran the numbers and to my surprise they were not wrong (even considering the earnings). After 18 years, I lost my art room to a classroom this year in order to spread out kids due to Covit19. They said we can’t hand out papers.. kinda thinking art is remote for all. I will do lessons on google classroom with live lesson to classrooms and home. I was told special area teachers may be “repurposed”. We will be used like a TA.
