42, 381k. Spouse 384k. For perspective I'll add that at 28, I had 27k, since it appears the average person here is in their 20s. Unfortunately only contributed to the company match probably until only 5 years ago. Didn't start maxing them out until 3 years ago. But finally at a point where we are contributing 86k+ to retirement each year. Point is, it adds up fast, even if you think you're behind the game.

Yezzir...sometimes people forget the easy stuff. Make sure there some kind of inflationary rider. Is she private practice or employee of hospital or group?

Pwc offers post tax 401k. This can be later converted to a Roth IRA. We used this a lot and maxed to 55-56K a year (including company match). Spouse has access to 403b and 457 plans. Also max out on 5-6k per year Roth IRA through tIRA conversion. We started late in our careers. 34 years- me 260k spouse 200k across all accounts.

..the secret sauce...no one knows about! This should be #2 in pecking order of how folks invest

26, $10k. Commenting to let others know that not everyone has the above. Life events and medical came up that have caused me to allocate significant funds elsewhere. Only JUST starting to contribute

Great comment. I just checked, and when I was 26, I had $19k put away. You're still young, don't sweat it. Better late than never, just do what you can, when you can.

32, $130 combined I was happy with this until I read this thread. 😅

B2, early in my career (7-10 years ago) I contributed a lot to my Roth IRA and because the market’s been going gangbusters, most of the value is in market gains.

33, $18k. Left workforce at 25 when had a kid. At 33 this is my first job in close to a decade and I plan to max 401k to try and make up for lost time. I know I’m behind but I’m thankful for the opportunity I’ve been given ☺️

Hey mummas, I'm struggling with how I feel about my team at work. None of them, including my manager, have children and they just don't get it. I spent the last 3 months "growing up" & now I'm ready to go. 1st thing is for me to get my own place. I'd like to buy instead of rent because I don't want to pay someone else's mortgage. I'm thinking of selling my car & cash out some of my 401k to buy a house. My thought is to put down 3.5% for a FHA loan then make a big payment towards the principal to reduce long-term interest. Anything wrong with this thinking or anything else I should consider?

Started reading The Simple Path to Wealth and am really enjoying it and am fully onboard BUT I have a few questions. I’m currently married with no debt and have max match 401K, a little in Roth IRA and about 50K in savings account. I plan on investing in real estate and buying a personal home in the next 5 years so am curious how much should i keep in my savings account and how much should I put in VTSAX. Also, since I don’t want to put alot of my savings in a IRA or Roth CONT.

Deloitte moms, I need your guidance. For some reason, someone (not sure which team) has marked my maternity leave (LOA) starting next week on DTE and I can’t update it to show PTO.
