It’s Friday morning and I don’t want to get up! 🤓

Agree, but there can still be fun or application to a "fun" activity. Every year I have to teach argumentative writing with C.E.R format. I hold debates to get practice in for this style & mentality of writing. I also tell my students anytime we write using CER that I am teaching them how to win arguments against their parents, siblings, and friends. They love it!
True
Learning doesn’t have to be a game. But if you aren’t having fun, what’s the point? I love teaching and I want my students to love it too.
Agree, the object of engagement should be to get students interested in what they are learning because it matters to them, that's why educators should keep working to include activities that connect lessons to real world applications for content
Totally agree. I always say I’m not here to entertain but to engage. If they are entertained that’s a plus.
I think that having passion and energy about a topic rubs off on the kids
But... if they are not listening in the first place then the lesson is shot.
I can’t make math more interesting but I can make my class more fun.
Good point. Some topics are just dry. But if you are engaging in other ways, you can keep them with you until you grind through it.
It may not always be fun but it should be fun most of the time. It should always be interesting. You as the teacher should motivate your students. Make it relevant and challenging. If you are boring than the students will also be bored. Yes you as the teacher should be excited about your topic and spread that to your students
I think relevance is overplayed, especially at the higher level. There comes a point where one has to learn simply for the sake of learning. There is a reason you could drop out after 8th grade, and that is because you have (should have) learned all the "need it for daily life stuff" by then.
I agree, but I teach Pre-k so fun means everything! Their attention spans are super short so if they don’t think it’s fun, you lose them.
I didn’t realize until I started teaching that I had a little performer in me. Surprisingly enough, when I’m at my best, teaching is pretty fun for me. So, if the material isn’t always fun, and it isn’t!, at least I’m trying to be engaging to listen to. If I can make it relevant, great! If I can make it fun, that sounds awesome! But I teach Chemistry and sometimes it’s just all about the grind for a while until I can make it relevant again. But as long as at least one of us is having fun we can make it through together.
Agree. I’m not a circus clown. I’m a teacher. 😊
Typo. Are
As a music teacher, this is something I'm constantly thinking about. Yes, music class should be fun but my primary goal is to teach. Kids need to meet me halfway. Sometimes we can do more and enjoy things more when we know more.
Agree! If children (or adults) are focused, it's often with seriousness. This is engagement, and it's a beauty to behold. Our most difficult discussions require us to be engaged, through tears and anger. It's not fun, but it's crucially necessary.
Add crucially necessary is redundant. Oops!
