My last day at my current job is Wednesday and I’m not starting my new job until 10/4. My health insurance ends on midnight Wednesday. What should I do for those 10 days in between? Seems ridiculous to pay for COBRA for only 10 days.
How long do you have to be at your company to qualify for their maternity / paternity leave policy?
I work in a Rep Services Call Center for an Insurance/ Investment Company. Currently I'm pursuing my MBA at Western Governors University and I plan to get my Series 7 after my MBA so I can get out of the Call Center and advance my career. I'm looking for some advice / guidance/ideas for growth opportunities from here. I'd like to hear about good experiences and bad experiences people have had in this industry, where did you start, how did you grow from there, what licenses do you have, ect.
Serious question. What baby items are most expensive? (other than diapers, formula, college education, nanny.. Etc)
I’m going in for a doctor’s appointment tomorrow to find out if I have lymphoma. Am I supposed to like... work if I’m diagnosed? Our company has short term and long term disability leave options but idk. I’d love time off work but not at the expense of cancer (joking to try and get through today)
Sick of biglaw but I want to stay one more annual bonus season. I’m seriously burned out and would like to shift gears but I’d like to leave after ending my 5th year. I am potentially looking to just try and hide/keep my head low to avoid work as much as possible/“slack off” and wonder how possible is to do that for a year without getting fired? I aim to maximize vacay time, and just in general try to avoid any work I don’t absolutely have to do.
I met up with a couple of my closest friends and all they talked about was wanting to date and find a boyfriend, which there is nothing wrong with but they see me as the strange one becos I'm not interested. I'm so sick of hearing "but don't you want somebody that will do XYZ for you" 🥴 I just wanted to vent ☹
I was due for a promotion but then covid hit, and during the peak of layoffs/furloughs, I was given the run-around that we have agency wide promotion freezes, etc. Over the past month, a handful of people have been promoted. I know everyone's situation is different but I can't help feeling snubbed. How do I know whether they are genuinely trying to promote me and can't, versus them stringing me along for as long as possible? I dont want it to come to having to bring another offer to the table..
There are several children in my classroom who keep having tech issues. How can I support them without taking away from instruction time?
I live alone and have loved the time not traveling but WFH has really started getting to me the past few weeks. On top of that, I got a series of bad news this week that really took a toll on my mental health (one has affected my ability to visit family), and I’ve never felt this alone in my life. I miss having an office to go to and see others in. Even started skipping workouts & cooking, both of which I love. Could use hugs and inspiration to get past this hump
After graduation I moved back home to save a bit of money. I am now 24 and want to move out this summer. I have very conservative immigrant parents that I know will be both angry and heartbroken when I tell them I want to move out. For those with similar parents - how did you have this conversation with them? I’m the oldest child and daughter and have spent most of my life trying to make my parents proud - the thought of disappointing them is tough 😞
What is the maternity policy in Big4? In EY we need to work for at least an year and we get 16 weeks paid parental leave+ 2 weeks short term disability leave.
Those of you who are waiting or opposed to the COVID vaccine - do you feel obligated to divulge your true vaccine status to restaurants, employers, etc.?
“A new study suggests that almost half of those hospitalized with COVID-19 have mild or asymptomatic cases.”
Being sick on keto sucks! What do you guys reach for? Wanting ramen noodles, applesauce and toast ☹️
If I eat a pint of Ben and Jerry's Milk and Cookies ice cream every night but eat 100% healthily otherwise and exercise moderately, is that ok for my health? My life is in your hands.
Helping a friend navigate through severe mental health issues, and it’s starting to take a toll on me now - not even that it’s exhausting, but it’s triggering my own past memories of trauma and intrusive thoughts. I am in a much better place in life now thankfully, but the thought that I may slip/relapse again keeps nagging at me, even though I am determined not to let that happen. Any advice from people who may have been in a similar situation?
How does the new rule impact on amendment? Big 4 has promotion typically every year and which require amendments. Do you think this will effect current H1 holder?
I hate the fact that when recruiters reach out they don’t say what the salary range is, virtual or in-person, weekly hour expectations, how big the accounting department is, or literally anything you would want to know before deciding whether an interview is worth your time.
After nearly 20 years in the military serving in T&E and HR roles, I’m considering moving on and have been conducting lots of research into consulting. BS, MA, and SPHR cert - no MBA. I’m looking for suggestions or advise about transitioning. DC Metro area is likely landing spot.
I have a salary range in mind for a new role based on online research and target increase from my comp now. But my research shows the data points are for salaries in HCOL areas. Do I need to adjust what I ask for if it’s a remote role and I’m not in HCOL city? Don’t want to overshoot and lose a great opportunity.
Would you live in fidi if there was a covid discount? In early 20s and worried it’s a very quiet / boring area but have found a nice luxury building discounted wifi lots of amenities.
Welcome to the mental health Awareness bowl for those in Big Law. Mental health Awareness is severely over-looked in the industry, despite cursory attempts by firms to broach the topic with attorneys.
Any 🐠 works for LEGO? Saw a job post and would really appreciate it if anyone will be open to share the culture/experience!
What are some scenarios that would cause the USCIS to deny someone’s H1B after being selected in the lottery?
I made the mistake of doing math today. In my 1st 2 years I brought in 7mm in new assets to my fee-based firm. Good thing im on salary or we'd be broke. If this wad 1988 and that was commission...
Does anyone work fewer than 5 days and have a management role at their agency? I work 4 days and am being told it’s holding back being considered for a promotion.
Anyone have any thoughts on the VML creative team in in KC? Specifically the CD position that continually opens up
I have 2 years of sales experience but am looking to make a career change into HR? Any tips of how to standout on my resume or any general advice? Thanks!
Just remember that, at the base of it, every Jewish holiday makes it a mitzvah to get drunk
I’d love some help thinking through this. I’m currently renting for $1600 base ($1800 total) and live in the least desirable part of town, and expect it to raise to about $2k/month. I was planning to buy my first property in the city and Airbnb part of it, but it will take me about a year to save up the cash (~$500k starting). Eventual goal is to move more rural but trying to build to FI. I found a property in my ideal dream location for $280k but it needs work, and can’t Airbnb it. Continued
Any US citizen gotten married to someone from India? Any tips on the visa process for bringing the spouse to the US?
What is salary range for new SM ?
Working in Europe temporarily. Have an option to do Executive MBA, it’s around 70-90k Euros for an year. Another option I have is doing part time PhD in Management. It’s around 35-40k Euros for 4 years. Any thoughts on which one would be more useful? Currently work in a T2 in their digital practice. Had plans of shifting to MBB 3-4 years back but lost interest after
Thoughts on coding bootcamps? Any specific NYC-based ones? Currently in a non-technical role and tried learning on my own with free resources (realized I needed more hand holding when I got stuck so am looking into this option now).
