Alaskan Air v Delta question. I'm based in Seattle and will be doing a lot of domestic USA travel (likely mostly to Vegas). If the only criteria we're examining is the best point reward system for use for leisure domestic and international travel (also considering use of partner airlines in the case of Alaskan Air), which would you choose?

Delta

Delta. Always delta. I will always be a delta die hard fan. They’re good and treat their customers really well.

likefunny

To add- I’ve been flying delta for 5 years

I'd probably choose Delta...more routes, plus has international flights too

likefunny

Ya not sure how miles would work if you fly with a partner airline

funny

Anybody saying Delta is clueless. Alaska is hands down the best points program in the US and it’s not particularly close. Great partners for peak redemptions at reasonable rates (Cathay, JAL, Qantas, Emirates, etc.) and perks like one way open jaws. Meanwhile Delta is trotting out Skypesos that use dynamic pricing. Delta has its perks (namely great service and customer oriented branding relative to UA/AA), but that’s not the question here

like

*Stopovers, not open jaws

Alaska hands down if you’re based in Seattle. No question. I have to assume some people responding here aren’t actually based in SEA/PDX/SFO. Alaska miles are more valuable AND you will typically earn more of them for each flight.

like

Alaska is much better, and they have a codeshare program with most international airlines, including Emirates and Qatar most recently

like

Any experience with this? I haven't used their codeshare program so not sure if it's more of a marketing ploy with very little applicable value or actually beneficial and comparable to just going with a Delta for eg and using delta miles to book a delta I ternstional flight.

Unquestionably Alaska if your focus is on miles. Delta miles are worth the least of any US carrier’s points and Alaska’s are worth the most. Alaska is also joining oneworld and partnering with American so you’ll get status benefits on American (including upgrades) and have access to flights on more partners.

like

Alaska hands down. They have a strong presence in west coast and is part of one world alliance for international travel. Best value for points compared to delta

like

Best to get status/accounts with multiple airlines in case you can’t utilize one airline all the time due to a myriad of circumstances. I flew so much at one point I had status on 4 separate airlines and accumulated free flights with each. Get both Delta & Alaska and fly them exclusively.
