Why leave for similar pay?
I left D for EY but only bc I was a C/$76k and EY offered me SC/$140k so obviously I took that jump. For the same role and pay I wouldn’t have left D. They’re not wrong when they say it’s the #1 talent experience. The time and expense apps, expense policies, 2nd work phone, are all great at D
MBB would be a better reason to leave. Only move sideways if it's really draining your mental health. Otherwise you will have to start all over, rebuild your network, and end up behind your colleagues who are up for promotion when the time comes. I'd really think this one through.
Among every firm, there's a degree of luck based on what team/practice you get aligned to - think about the people you interact most with. Are they good advocates for you? Do you enjoy them? If you feel "meh" about them, fire away, roll the dice.
If you feel like you have advocates above you, though, I wouldn't lateral for the same title and pay.
I quit D last year for MBB. There is a world of difference. Had to take a level hit but I feel it’s worth it. Only place I’d leave MBB for is FAANG PM
I'd only leave if I gained something.... More pay, better role alignment to goals/interest or multiple gains. I wouldn't, for instance, leave D to go to EY for the same pay unless there was another reason as well
I left to PwC for a higher role and 20% extra pay …only bcz D wasn’t promoting me due to bureaucracy
