Deloitte question. I have always gotten a raise each year, the only question I ask is how much of a raise do I get. But Iâm hearing from former Deloitte folks, it is naive to expect annual raises each year however small/big they are? And how does this play in Deloitte consulting vs advisory? Do one tend to withhold annual raises in base salary over the other, or is this just a deloitte culture thing? Looking at exit opportunities all over. So lmk! Iâd Rather get a small raise than none at all.

Take the full 16 weeks my friend. I did it and do not regret it. No one gave me a hard time. In fact, most people encouraged it. Bonus was prorated, but nothing else impacted for me at YE.
Same for myself and my husband when we took our leaves at deloitte. Its an amazing benefit. Ive known many men to take it as well & not be hurt by it
You should absolutely take your full paternity leave for many reasons, including that Deloitte will drop you in a hot minute if you arenât making them enough money (even if you donât take your leave) and this time with your child is precious bonding time that you canât replace. You also have an opportunity to provide significant support to your wife and child at literally no financial cost to yourself.
Also, if you donât take the full leave, you are signaling to the women who work with and for you that you donât value parental leave. When men donât take the parental leave that the firm provides and women do, it puts women at a professional disadvantage. As a woman who wants to have children, I have paid attention to the men I work for who didnât take their paternity leave and have considered whether they would be good allies for me when I have children, and whether I want to invest in building relationships with them if they wonât have my back.
Excellent point D3, men are also hurt by those who donât take their leave. It perpetuates stigma around taking necessary and important family bonding time.
Might want to ask in the Deloitte bowl.
Take what you can though. Itâs time youâll never get back. So worth it.
Congrats!!!!
You canât ever get this time back. You can always work harder later even *if* youâre âpenalizedâ. Life isnât about work. Itâs about those moments
Dude who cares. Take it. Itâs yours.
Nah, seen way too many ladies getting promoted from SC to M having two kids in between... đ¤ˇââď¸... go ahead and enjoy as much as you can
Yâall were so quick to twist that personâs comment. đ Him taking paternal leave should not affect his ability to be promoted nor should it be counted against him in a performance review. If that did become the case, that will be a legal matter. Many women have taken maternal leave and still are able to get promoted.

100% take it. If you have the opportunity to space it out over the first year, look at planning for more time at home when theyâre a bit older, or if / when your wife is going back to work.
Definitely take the first few weeks; theyâre awesome. That said, thereâs a lot more that the dad / non-birth mom can do when kiddo gets a bit older and theyâre less reliant on birth / nursing mom.
If penalized = slightly lower bonus or delayed promotion, it really doesnât matter in the grand scheme of things. Take the time, be a dad, and be happy!! We donât have kids yet but I canât imagine thinking of promotions and bonuses as a reason to have not spent the precious time.
Congrats! Take advantage of it! I have one on the way and was really looking forward to the 16 weeks. I recently found out project delivery only gets 2 weeks though.
Took full leave, no penalty, no regrets. Just know your AIP will be prorated but (1) shouldnât matter (2) who knows if there is AIP next year to begin with. Hands down the best benefit we have in the firm and from what I know, across the industry.
Take it. I know plenty of men at deloitte that have...no repurcussions
Dude take itâfamily always needs to come first, especially if the only impact is an (unlikely) delayed promotion or a few grand less in bonus.
I took the full 4 months. Totally worth it and better than taking small chunks at a time.

Agree with this. Ability to fully roll off projects and then back on is what makes the leave legit.

Damn 2-3 months? Idk what our paternity leave length is but everyone I know who took it literally still answered emails and logged on daily during their âleaveâ.
Some companies do better than others. Bank of America turns your email access off and put an OOO up saying your on maternity / paternity leave.
Same boat (due jan), different company and absolutely taking the full 4 months. Priceless benefit if you have the option take it
You wonât get penalized
You will never get that time back. Exactly, why Deloitte will penalize you for it at ye.
OP, take all the baby leave you can. Itâs one of the best perks at Deloitte. And no, you will not be penalized. I know this for a fact.
Congratulations on your first born. Enjoy the time, they are truly precious

Take all your leave!
Thank you all for your responses. I am happy to see this is a serious perk at Deloitte and not viewed negatively. Really appreciate everyoneâs input
